Anyone know how to date a pressing of 16 Of Their Greatest Hits CD? Are all pressing equal in sound quality?
Thanks

Luke P. is the expert on dating old MCA works of mine.
I think he must be elsewhere tonight or he would have answered by now.
Maybe someone else will chime in here. I know the current "Canadian" version is cool. I think all versions are made with my mastering, though.

I am?!
:)
But, yeah, my Canadian copy (same catalog number as the US) sounds wonderful. I've never done a direct A/B with a US copy, but...
I've been reading things, just haven't been too up on posting that much lately. I just don't feel the need to always chime in, and now I've got other things to keep me happy...

Thanks Luke, I have a CRC edition which has both catalog numbers:MCAD-5701 & JVC-436 on the CD & back insert. Sounds Great!
Just got this CD, sent from HMV.com.
Has both catalog numbers, MCAD-5701, and JVC-436.
Liner notes: Sessions produced 1965-68 by Lou Adler at United/Western studios, Hollywood. Compiled and digitally remastered by Steve Hoffman.
1986 MCA Records, manufactured by Cinram for MCA Records, Canada. The disc shows not the copyright symbol, but the circle with a "P" inside (produced?) 1985.
So far I've only played it on the computer while I was working. Very clear, I can't wait to crank it up on my good system.
I didn't know Hal Blaine played skins on this, oboy!

The P inside a circle stands for Phonograph. I'm not a copyright lawyer, but I believe there's very little difference between that and a Šopyright.

The "P" is for the recording...

The circle P stands for published. As in: First published in 1985.
You usually won't see a "P" line on an American record before the copyright law took effect in 1972. That's the year the "P" line started poping up on records...

It's true; most any appearence of a Mamas and Papas CD, especially the Universal grab-*** release, sounds like potty. I dare ya to listen to it. Steve's 16 MCA, luckilly, is in everyone's collection when they bought up music in a major way. All the radio stations have his disc that play AC or oldies.

After a few weeks of searching I found myself a copy... All I can say is that it sounds incredible. Now I'm gonna have to find a copy of the Buddy Holly disc...the same one I sold used when the 2 disc set came out.
