I've tried search a vast array of combinations and can't find the thread that I'm sure did exist for this album. It's a great pop album and a strong step on from the debut. But, my reason for posting, is the UK vinyl pressing. Although the mastering sounds pretty good, I'm now on my third copy of it and each copy has been the same. A number of skips in the opening minute of the first track and a couple more, much later on side 1. They happen at identical spots on each copy and there doesn't seem to be an obvious jump when watching the stylus as each skip occurs.
Has anybody else purchased this yet and had a similar experience?
Have just ordered the US picture disc version instead.

Great album. Highly entertaining. She reminds me of a female Robbie Williams (what's he been up to lately)?
Sorry to hear your problems with the vinyl (I have the CD).

One of my favourite new albums at the moment. I play it regularly. Lots of fun, but quite bittersweet too in places. I wont say I think Lily Allen is a great singer but she is great at what she does and I love her lyrics. Thoroughly enjoyable and quite more-ish :)

I have both of her cds. They are a fun listen, if a slight guilty pleasure.

For some reason, I don't see her as a career artist or the music aging well. Amy has her beat if she can stay away from the grim reaper....and Blake.

    And Cold Mind...

My 19-year-old daughter loves and worships her. But, I saw her the other night on some late night show, and was not impressed, and in fact the words to her new song are really nacissistic... and not in a good way...

Just an FYI, there is a 12 inch picture disc of this new record out there somewheres, my local has one... I was half-tempted to by it for my daughter for her next B-day (October) but not after I heard that lame song...

    cheers,

"The Fear" is a character. Just like Springsteen or Dylan are allowed to do in their songs.

  9. Some Sunshine World Pop... with a pack of dark flippant twists to go, please

Cute little intro to the LDN video off the first album Alright, Still from '06 that as a long time record store dude I found mighty tongue in cheek and quite priceless ... :D

Have not heard anything as of yet from the It's Not Me, It's You release but have sold a couple of those picture discs to customers.

Exactly. Not everything Lily writes is autobiographical obviously. I actually think that The Fear is a great song. Catchy and obviously somewhat satirical. I dont think it is in any way intended to be narcissistic or autobiographical. Its a commentary on the lengths people will go to to become famous -

"I want to be rich and I want lots of money,
I dont care about clever I dont care about funny,
I want loads of clothes and f**kloads of diamonds
I heard people die while theyre trying to find em,
And I'll take my clothes off and it will be shameless
cos everyone knows thats how you get famous.

I'll look at The Sun and I'll look in The Mirror,
On the right track, yeah Im onto a winner,
I dont know whats right or whats real anymore
I dont know how Im meant to feel anymore
When do you think it will all become clear
cos Im being taken over by The Fear"

Lifes about film stars and less about mothers
Its all about fast cars and cussing each other
but it doesnt matter cos Im packing plastic
and thats what my life so f**king fantastic
And I am a weapon of massive consumption
And its not my fault its how Im programmed to function"

I think its a pretty accurate picture of our Andy Warhol 15 minute society.
I really like the rest of the album too. Maybe Lily Allen isnt a major talent destined to rival the great social commentators of rock but shes a lot of fun and she makes great music and she still has something interesting and worthwhile to say :)

    It's the single/music video/tv appearance song.

Lines about "weapon of mass consumption" and "I'm packing plastic and that's why my life is so f--king fantastic"(refering to credit cards)

I'm a fan, but I wish her lyrics weren't so distasteful in both subject matter and language. Is there an edited version of the new cd like there was for the debut? That won't fix the subject matter I know, but at least it will clean up some of the childish language.

If there is I want to know what they then did with the song **** You. Somehow I don't think it'll work with everything bleeped out (or replaced with an 'oohoo' like Prince's Sexy M.F.).

They put "comedic" sound effects in the places where she uses the "F" word. The "clean" version can be heard on iTunes.

Baby Spice already made good, thank you very much...try her Free Me solo album.

I listen to the Lily Allen yesterday, and found it pretty good. Unfortunately, I don't hear as much "don't give a sh**" in this one as the last one, but still pretty good pop.

With the Spice Girls yes !
Agree both produce light pop music.
But, Lily Allen has more spice in her lyrics :D
+ she's proving to be a consistent chart topper.
    Baby Spice is 33 :D

Finally got 'round to checking out "The Fear" on YouTube. I agree that it is difficult to say whether the track is the final celebration of the pre-crash bubble or a prescient commentary on the crash itself, but what a top tune. And she looks utterly fantastic, too.

  23. You think her lyrics are bad, you should hear the kids at the schoolyard or playground these days! Compared to that, Lily Allen is MILD stuff!
