I have been putting my LPs onto CD (using my audio CD recorder) on a kind of sporadic basis. Just the other day I did the first Peter Case solo album (from 1986). Now, I hadn't listened to this in quite awhile, though I did remember that I liked it a lot when it came out. Listening to it while I copied it I was amazed at how good it is. This really is a great album, great songwriting, beautifully sung and played. What a pleasant surprise. Of course, according to my wife and kids, this means that I own too many albums and can't listen to most of them very often. This, of course, is wrong; I do not own too many albums. One can never own too many albums.
Anyway, just thought I'd ask if anyone else has uncovered somewhat forgotten gems from their collections, and, if so, what they are.
Jeff
Jeff, this is indeed a great album. He never quite matched it, but came close with a few others. "Sings Like Hell" is much different but terrific in its own way. Actually, one of my favorite Peter Case performances is from an hour and a half radio gig he did on KCRW back around 1990 or so. I taped it onto a cassette, but haven't listened to it in years. I'll have to dig that one up...

A few days ago I pulled out my Townes Van Zandt LP (the one with "Pancho & Lefty" on it). Great album. No CD counterpart though. All his stuff on CD was remixed with very annoying digital echo on all the songs. Blecch.

The CD of the original mix of Townes Van Zandt's Pancho & Lefty is the twofer on EMI which was mastered right from the original tapes.

Elbow Bones & The Racketteers' "New York At Dawn" on EMI America from 1984 is one of my favorites. I just recently remastered this to CD-R.

Bradley,
Really? Hooray! That's good news.
Thanks! :)
I bought Stan Ridgeway's (former Wall Of Voodoo) "The Big Heat" on vinyl the other night for $1.99.
Recently I found a couple of the DCC Dwight Twilley discs that Steve did. Also Phil Seymour's (ex-Dwight Twilley) solo album on BoardWalk Records. Great stuff!

Recent re-visitations -
The Inmates - blues rock under the guise of 80's new wave. They kicked ***, probably would have given J.Geils or Edgar Winter a run for their money if they were a decade earlier.
The Name of this band is The Talking Heads - The live album that covered the Heads from their garage band roots thru the "Remain in Light" period. Sadly unavailable on CD.
Frank Zappa - Chunga's Revenge. I always thought a litle less of Zappa's "Flo and Eddie" years, but their first effort together was really an interesting mixture of instrumental intensity and pop music satire. Check it out again.
Poco - Good Feeling to Know - find out where the Eagles got their ideas.
The Clash - London Calling - a pleasant experience of a band ROOTED in a genre (punk rock) showing you that they have so much more. Reminds me of other artsists changing direction (Led Zeppelin III?) and doing it well. Sometimes I think they industry is just too contricted these days to accept a broad vision of music (remember Elvis Costello's "Almost Blue"?).

The Smoke on Sidewalk Records(Capital) 1968...Sundazed was supposed to release it years ago when they were doing the Michael Lloyd stuff. Never came out...Oh well at least I was able to put it on CDR myself, unfortunately from a noisy LP.
