View Full Version : Sealed DCC Gold Lot Advice

I need some advice and thought I would ask the board. I have a chance to purchase a significant number of sealed DCC gold discs that range in price from $35 to $50 each (only a very few are $50). I know some feel that the upper range may seem a bit high, but for an out-of-print item, a $15 premium seems pretty fair to me. Anyways, this is a partial list of what would be included:

Badfinger No Dice
Straight Up
Beach Boys Pet Sounds (multiple copies)
The Cars The Cars
Greatest Hits
Doobie Brothers Best of
The Doors All titles, multiples of a few
The Eagles Their Greatest Hits (multiples)
Hotel California (multiples)
Every Brothers Best Of
Al Green Greatest Hits
Jethro Tull Aqualung
Original Masters
Elton John Greatest His
Paul McCartney Red Rose Speedway
Band on the Run
Venus & Mars
At The Speed of Sound
Steve Miller Greatest Hits
Joni Mitchell Blue
Roy Orbison All Time Greatest (multiples)
Van Halen Van Halen

I would have to purchase the complete lot and the money outlay would, of course, be pretty substantial. However, I do not own all of these titles and would like a few of them. Of the ones I already own, I hope to sell the duplicates. Does anyone think there would be enough interest from other collectors to justify this purchase? Would anyone on this board be interested in purchasing any of these discs for between $35 and $50 each (the vast majority would be $35)? Thanks.

I'm not sure if $35-50 is a good price for those. None of the particularly high demand or rare DCC discs are included on there ("Highway 61 Revisited," "Elvis 24 Karat Hits"...)

Some, like the Cars Greatest Hits, the Badfinger disc, and Red Rose Speedway, could once be found as cut-outs for $15 or so, too. You may want to check musicforasong.com

Seems quite a bit too high for a multiple purchase especially if it's from a retailer. Considering also that alot of those titles can still be purchased retail for $31.00.

Last week I just bought Aqualung and The Doobies for $30 each.

Sounds like too much to me. Many of those titles I still see in stores for less than $30.

An average price of US$ 20 would be o.k. if you buy that many items ...

On the other hand, if you are not averse to charging what the market will bear, I've seen Pet Sounds selling for 100 on ebay and Roy Orbison gets snapped up with a Buy It Now of 60. If those titles are 35 each, you can overpay on some titles and make it back selling other titles.

I'd say if you are paying 35 for the multiple copy titles, you can do some selling and end up with a good deal. I'll give you 35 for a Roy and and Everly Brothers. :D Also, it sounds like the prices you were quoted were opening numbers subject to negotiation. :)
