I always thought that this band was never given a fair shake because they were to old compared to the punks at the time. I recently picked up a bunch of the EMI remasters, I was not to impressed with them sonically but its nice to have the bonus tracks together. No More Heroes is one of my favorites.

I have the vinyl Strangler's IV that I bought over 20 years ago. It's the one that included a bonus 7" EP that had 4 songs including a remake of Cream's White Room. I remember that I liked their version of that song, (that's probably why I bought the album) but it's been so long since I listened to the album I can't remember the songs. Can't recall anyone mentioning their name in a long time. After lunch I'm going to throw it on the turnable and give it a listen. If you're interested I can post a pic of the EP.

The Stranglers were one of my favorite bands back in the late 70's and early 80's. I was even lucky enough to catch them twice live when Hugh Cornwall was still in the band.
I own their entire ouput from early on with Hugh in the band, and even have the first album they released after Hugh Cornwall left the band.
"Aural Sculpture" was a favorite, as well as "No More Heroes", "Black and White" and "Men In Black".
YES, I am a very big Stranglers fan. Not as much as I used to be after Hugh Cornwell left, but an ardent fan nonetheless.
I too was disappointed with the EMI remasters. The packaging absolutely sucks! Thank goodness I still have all the original CD issues from the 80's.
The recent Epic remasters are lovely to have, a sharp contrast to the EMI remasters.
I have all of their albums on vinyl except for the last couple or so, with a few 12" singles sprinkled here and there. I've got most of their solo stuff on vinyl and CD as well.
My favorite albums are Rattus Novergicus, The Raven, The Gospel According to the Meninblack, Feline, and my favorite of all, Dreamtime. I even like Stranglers in the Night from the Mk II version, but it all went downhill after that.
My two prized Stranglers possessions are the original 3-D album cover of The Raven and a postcard from Scotland that Hugh Cornwell wrote to me on the "10" tour a few months before he left the band!
That reminds me of two killer bass lines - "Peaches" and "Dead Loss Angeles"!

Here I am on this forum nearly every day hanging out and talking music, and I never, ever bring up the Stranglers because it's like talking to a brick wall, usually. It seems that nobody here has heard of them.
Well, I have 39 Stranglers-and-related lp's and cd's, not counting overlaps (where I have a title in multiple formats). Very few are domestic pressings, 'natch.
I have another 14 or so 12" singles and a handful of 45's.
Had a banner year when I heard them on the soundtrack of both "Snatch" and "Sexy Beast" in the same summer!
I heard "Let's Celebrate" played as bg music on Entertainment Tonight when they were announcing birthdays (fow a few weeks, in 1990).
Met Hugh in Atlanta, where I live, in Nov. '99 and hung out with him after his show. I had a ton of Hugh / Stranglers vinyl with me and was embarrassed to ask him to autograph more than a few pieces, so went easuy on him even though I'd waited/been collecting for 18 years!!!
I would include a scan of one of the covers with this post, but I blew up my scanner when I plugged it into the (wrong voltage) a/c adapteer a month or two back. I'll try to add one to this thread later.
I have bought and given away 1/2 dozen c/o copies of "Black Hair, Eyes, Suit" to hook folks on his work.
Weird, though. The Stranglers have several audiophile lp's and Hugh himself professes completee ignorance of the recording/mixing process. He did not even realise that the "10" lp was recorded in a form of Sonic Holography.
