I just ordered the Classic Records 45 rpm LP "Thought We'd Do One Together" by Ben Webster and "Sweets" Edison. Does anyone have any experierence with any of these 45 rpm titles? How do they compare with the standard 180 gm vinyl issues? Does the faster speed equate to lower noise?

In theory, since the music can be cut a few db louder, the surface noise is a bit farther down.

Thanks for the info Steve. I'll let you know what I think once I get the discs. The song My Romance is one of my favorite equipment demo tracks. Everytime I hear it I want to buy a vintage tube amp. I'm afraid the vinyl verson may push me over the edge.

Does your statement hold true on both 7" and 12" 45 rpm records? Does it require any special equipments or magic tricks to cut a 45?

No Paul, just 12" 45's. Your old 7" 45's might sound louder as well, but too much inner groove distortion and other artifacts hamper the sound.
It doesn't require any special equipment or tricks to cut at 45 RPM. We just change the speed on the motor, and increase groove size, and go.
So what's the "big deal" about these new modern '45's?
Better sound? Unique collectors items? Better dynamics? More toys for big boys?
BTW, I just picked up Carole King's Classic Records release. With the 3 '45's shrinkwrapped to the album. I am gonna save that baby for some friends who will be visiting this weekend! Yum!
I wish I could find some DCC vinyl somewhere..... for a decent price!

I purchased 3 of the Classic issues (Time Out, KOB and Mingus). As good a the regular LP pressing were the 45' s are that much better, far more dynamic. They are highly recommended, but a pain to play, I personnally don't like to have to change a record after each song. They did do a very very limited 45 cut of Stairway to Heaven that I want to get my grubby hands on.
