View Full Version : Steve, would this be any good?
Found this buried in one of the least popular places on ebay (at least as far as audiophiles are concerned)

God, no. Forget it. A sixth generation high speed dub at 3 3/4 ips? Any LP from any country would sound better!
Now, if the music had been recorded in America, and the reel to reel tape was at 7 1/2 ips, it might sound pretty good....

I have "Stand Up" on 3 3/4 IPS reel. Yikes. It won't be any better than that.
Steve's right about 7 1/2 IPS stuff on reel. You CAN home master many of those reels given they're recorded well, in good condition. Many will blow you away, but for the most part, it's just neato. That's all.

BTW, I'm not being patriotic when I stated earlier that if the music was recorded in America it would sound better.
What I MEANT, was that since the Tull was recorded in England, and a third generation copy was sent to the USA, and a copy made from that was used as a LP cutting master, and a copy made from THAT was used to give to the reel to reel people for duping, and of course, they didn't use that tape, but made a high speed "running master" from it, etc. Phew.
And the tape was duped for 3 3/4 ips playback just so they could save on recording tape. Blecch....:D
