Hello All,

Does any one on this board own the MFSL gold CD of Elton John MMATW? If so, do you believe this is the best sounding CD version available? Please feel free to compare the Polydor, Island remaster, German import and any other CD versions you may know of.

I guess Tom Port says the MFSL CD release is "Crappy for a flat transfer" compared with the DCC vinyl release. But I am not necessarily interesting in the vinyl, my main concern is: does the quality of sound on the gold cd warrant the high prices on eBay?

I guess ultimately it doesn't matter since I was a winning bidder on eBay for this item. Was I suckered?

I appreciate your responses. Thanks.

Gamma - man...

For what it's worth, "Madman" is one of my favorite MFSL Gold CD's...I love it.

Absolutely blows away any of the vinyl releases I've heard...although I must say that I have not heard the DCC vinyl and, based on my experience with that particular medium, it might be worth checking it out. Besides - you can pick it up (the DCC) cheaper on Amazon Sellers....

BTW - I picked up an extra copy of the MFSL "Madman" for $10 on half.com last week....crazy!

Best Wishes,

Ben

Gentlemen,

Funny this thread coming up. Guess what I'm listening to right now?

I recieved this album from one of the other members on this forum and all I've got to say is this cd-r of the DCC vinyl blows away my buddies MFSL version hands down!

So how much did it set you back GammaSpace?

Do these versions have the awful bass distortions in the title track like all of the Madman Cds I've ever heard?

Well, just got the CD today. Easily the best I have heard on CD, but I have only heard the Island remaster and Japanese remaster (which I think is identical to the Island remaster with the exception of better D/A conversion). It's worth every penny I paid. :)

I have the MSFL and the DCC. The DCC is warmer then the CD but not by much (a little better soundstage). I have also had the Polydor and Island (I gave them away when I got the MSFL copy). For the sound DCC is better, but the MSFL is the best CD. Don't pay the high prices on ebay, I waited 2 years before I found my copy. Then 3 years later, I went to Amoeba when it open Hollywood and I found it for $19! Just stick it out! and good luck ;)
