If your main interests are classical music and jazz, what do you consider to be the best universal DVD-A/SACD player currently on the market?

The Muse Model 10 is not a universal player.

Trust me, it isn't. The author of the caption is incorrect.

Also the Marantz is now the (improved) 8400.

Hey, where's the Lipra Labs universal player that plays anything you can throw at it?

Sure - it was released almost three months ago; I believe it was a Tuesday.

Hmm. The two votes for the Muse couldn't have come from anyone who auditioned it - at least with SACD - it's not a universal machine!

How about the Lexicon RT-10?
Got some very good reviews.
Take a look a this list of universal players:
http://www.dvd-a.dk/start.php?Lang=1&page=P25
The ones with a "R" are the ones that I found a review for. If you know of a review for one of the units without reviews then please let me know.
Thanks,
LB
Only 11 votes?
Thought I'd revive this thread. I am considering getting a universal player. Hopefully, the good members of this forum can express more opinions this time around!
I'm leaning towards the Marantz. If I have a redbook playback problem, I can always add in a DAC to get better sound.

The best may now be the brand spankin' new Denon 5900.
It's been getting raves over at the AVS Forum and its DVI port has been enabled so it can be hooked up to a Digital TV for viewing perfection.
Pricey though....it MSRP's at $1999 but should eventually be discounted down from there. The dealer cost level is $1200.
Everyone says it blows away the Denon 2900.

I couldn't vote... but the best combi player is Linn's Unidisk.

I think the problem with a poll like this is that most of us are unlikely to have actually listened to more than one of these players, at least under the same conditions (in our own homes, with the same amps & speakers, etc). Unless one is a reviewer -- or one has a lot of money to buy equipment just to try it out -- how would anyone actually know, first hand, which player is better than another?

I'd hope that - since these are not exactly cheap - that most people would have comparison shopped and heard at least a few of them before buying.
But you have a good point!
