My friend gave me one of these today when he was moving out of his old place. It's in good condition but can anyone comment on how it sounds. If it's good I might see what it sounds like with speakers and everythign hooked into it.

Just like anything else, hook it up and try it yourself, but IMO it will suit you just fine.

There's places on the net, if you search with the model number, you might get other people's opinions. I'm more of a toobe snob than anything else, and I think what you're talking about is solid state stuff.

But I say that to in which cbsolson stated, as long as it makes you happy, enjoy it. If you think it sounds too bland or unexciting, at least you tried.

Appearence, condition and price sometimes doesn't mean a thing. If it's musical and it moves you, life is good. :D

Well I was planning on getting a 500c this month but I figured may as well take this one to use in a different system. I'll probably give her a try when my 500c is being serviced.

What I understood from a couple of decades ago: the "good" Fisher stuff was made in the 60's and early 70's. The cheaper solid state stuff came in the late 70's/early 80's and reportedly wasn't all that good. Might have been a switch to cheap overseas manufacturing. (But this could have been from audiophile snobs who look down on just about anything.)
