I was looking through my CD’s the other day and found a little gem I had forgotten about. A disc simply titled DCC Compact Classics. This is a sampler disc that I brought through a magazine called The Secret Guide To Music published by a gentlemen from New Hampshire name Wayne Green. The purpose of the magazine was to promote independent music producers and artists. Each month there would be a sampler offered for, I think $5.00. This disc has a catalog number of IMPS 006 and a copyright date of 1993. It has the following tracks:

Ray Charles – Hit the Road Jack
Freddie King – Going Down
The Zombies – Time Of The Season
Phoebe Snow – Harpo’s Blues
Willis Alan – Muskrat Love
Sammy Davis Jr. – Mr. Bojangles
Leon Russell – This Masquerade
Dwight Twilley – I’m On Fire
Grease Band – Laugh At The Judge
10cc – The Wall Street Shuffle
Jimmy Rogers – Act Like You Love Me
Pluto – I Man Bitter
Chris Montez – Let’s Dance
The Olympics – Private Eye
The Revels – Midnight Stroll
The Beach Boys – Surfin’
The Rumblers – Surf Rat
Maxine Sullivan – Massachusetts
Pee Wee Russell & Friends – Oh No!
Arthur Lyman – Love For Sale
Josephine Baker – J’ai deux amours
Ray Charles – America The Beautiful

As you can see this disc covers a lot of ground but, there are some great tunes here and although not credited the recordings have that Steve Hoffman “Breath Of Life”. The Zombies track is awesome. Steve, I know you remastered most in not all of these. Nice job! Do you recall the Pee Wee Russell disc? The notes say it was pulled from newly found stereo master tapes of a 1958 Counterpoint Jazz release. It sounds excellent. I wish I could find a copy.

Yes, I remember mastering that disc. Looks like my quirky taste in A&R too.

The "Pee Wee Russell" came out on a DCC Gold CD, Silver CD and LP. I know that Tom Port of Better Records has a bunch of the cheapo silver discs for not much money. Better give him a call, I'm sure he won't hang up on you...

Thanks Steve. I'll call Tom tomorrow I've been wanting to order some other stuff from him anyway. I've been listening to this disc in the car the last few days. I have to tell you, the sequencing is pretty interesting. Midnight Stroll usually sounds very muddy this version is nice and clean. And Sammy, what can I say, baby?

Is that the same sampler disc that came with cover art that looks like gold See's candy?

Does any one have that disc? I had it at one time and don't know what has become of it.

It is either buried in the stacks or perhaps it has joined some other lucky soul's collection. :(

Sure would like to get my hands on that.... Maybe I should go do some digging around. :p

AudioGirl,

Nope that's not the 24kt sampler that both you and I own as ours only has 6 songs on it.

AudioGirl,

Actually the ones that we own are far more rare only 2500 made and never sold to the general public. So I would think that Dave B would be the evious one by getting the aluminum sampler.;)

AudioGirl,

You should have known better about not letting anyone get a hand on your prized collection. If somebody wants to borrow your DCC stuff, JUST SAY NO.

I'd be the most envious one for I have neither. :(

Dave,

Where did you score the gold one?

No Audio Girl, This has a dull looking cover that looks like CD's spreadout on top of one and other. They look like an old Corel Draw jpg multiplied. No one spent any time or money on this.
Sorry for not replying last night, this continental time difference is tough. At 11:00 here you folks are just starting to rock.

By the way, I've looked for that DCC Gold Sampler too. Not easy to find.
