I've only listened to Boston. It was a little bright. How do these discs compare to gold DCC or MFSL? What’s the general consensus on sound quality CD to CD?

I tend to like most of Doug Sax's work at The Mastering Lab so I'm probably not one to give an opinion on the ones he did. I can say that, at the time these came out, there was a prevalent feeling going around that the (then new) SBM dither/noise-shaping process wasn't particularly refined as first introduced. Being that it was pretty much the first 20 to 16-bit noise-shaping black box on the market, some felt that it introduced audible artifacts into the signal and colored the resulting frequency response.

I even heard a rumor at one point that a certain engineer *stopped* using the black box...even though it was still being advertised on a certain label's packaging...lol!

Noise-shaping curves that came after (e.g. the Meridian), many people feel were an improvement.

Andy,

Check out my post "Mastersounds the good, the bad, and the ugly" on the forum somewhere as I own quite a few of these and have given the according rating (IMHO).;)

Dave,

Thanks I must have missed the previous thread some how. Please forgive my frivolous use of forum memory.:o
