The seller does have some negative feedback, so I think I'm going to pass. For a turntable I'm probably going to go new unless I find someone from the board selling one. Any thoughts on this auction?? Has anyone bought anything from this seller before? What's your gut feeling??

Try to go new unless you see a perfect bargain that you're able to experience yourself. I really wouldn't buy a used VPI unless I absolutely HAD to. :(

That's how I was thinking. It's better to pay more and have the support (and warranty) in case you have problems. Thanks Sckott!!

call the seller and ask him any questions or discuss any concerns you may have. I bought a used VPI HW-19 mk3 and have had no problems. In fact all my equipment, except speakers and cabling, has been either used or demo items.
I've had a few questions over the years and have contacted VPI and they are extremely helpful.

VPI makes great stuff, but like everything else, when you're buying a sensitive piece of equipment on eBay, you're risking the fact that:

a. You're not gonna git what's advertised because the seller is a bonehead. There may be problems you, as a buyer (and a more sensitive owner) might find problems you won't have recourse for. Remember the Detective buddy we saw here not too long ago? "eBay is a transaction made with strangers" is very true. Dammed if I spend more than $400 on any one item only to leave myself open to get ripped off, on purpose or otherwize.

b. Warranty means a lot these days. It means the support for a broken motor that goes too slow. It means finding a replacement part for an arm that cost the company $10 but costs an after-warranty customer $300. This isn't like buying a bushel of apples. It's some of the finest most sensitive turntables around, and they're built like musical instruments.

This is just MHO, but with a VPI I wouldn't F around. If it were a Dynaco ST70, Hell lemmie at 'em! As long as I know I'm over risks that I don't care about.

First time user? No. I almost bought my Rega from eBay. Found that ironically they were new and less expensive at authorized dealers. Who would'a thunk!!

Hi again Geoman,

I just wanted to mention....if you in fact read the sellers "negative feedback" you'll find that all except one is from unhonest/questionable buyers. Dave's Ebay lesson 101: Read all of the negative feedbacks while also checking the complainers feedback.;) It's worth the time and can save you a ton of cash.:)
