Just picked up the Sony DVPNS999ES DVD/CD/SACD player .

I'm still breaking the player in. Hopefully, this will last as long as my CDP X33ES CD Player which I bought in 1990. It still sounds better than most CD players under 1000 dollars. At about 24 pounds it has pretty solid construction and has never even skipped since I've had it.

The new SACD player is versatile and so far plays nicely. I feel it has yet to reveal what it can do until it's broken in.

Anyone have thoughts about new equip. and break in times?

I really didn't notice a difference with my DVP-NS999ES. It sounds just as good as it did when it was brand new - which has always been excellent, IMO. I use mine for CD/SACD/DVD, so it gets plenty of work! Breaking-in is such a hard thing for me to determine, because it happens so gradually. Only piece of equipment I noticed a difference on, is my Legacy Audio Speakers. They became noticably more musical and tighter over time :)

Thanks Cliff for the feedback. I'll be monitoring the sound of the Sony over the next couple of weeks. I'm inclined to agree with your assessment insofar as the degree of improvement that is likely to occur.

I like the Legacy line of speakers and I'm investigating a pair of Signatures over the next couple of months--along with the new Monitor Audio Gold 60s.
