What are your favorite "sleeper" movies starting major actors? Sleeper movies are those films that no one has heard of and are lost in obscurity on the shelves of your local rental store. Its pretty easy to list sleeper films with minor or unknown actors (think independent film!), but how about those sleepers that boast MAJOR talent ? To get you started, here's three compelling dramas to look for ...

Robert Duvall in "Tomorrow" 1972 (one of Duvall's favorite roles)
Robert De Niro in "Bang the Drum Slowly" 1973
Dustin Hoffman in "Straight Time" 1978 (if this is the way our parole system really works, its no wonder recidivism is so high in our criminal justice system)

With Blockbuster,Target, etc., demanding new product every week and devoting half a wall-unit to movies that never made it to the multiplexes, it's hard to call anything recent a "sleeper," but I enjoyed THE GOOD GIRL, featuring Jennifer Aniston; and ONE HOUR PHOTO with Robin Williams.

For a more traditional sleeper, I frequently recommend THE DUELLISTS, starring Keith Carradine and Harvey Kietel in the debut film by Ridley Scott, who later directed ALIEN, BLADE RUNNER, THELMA & LOUISE, and BLACK HAWK DOWN.
