I don't remember the model number but nakamichi made a cassette recorder that recorded in a speed slower than regular cassette.i borrowed one for two days and using metal tape at the slow speed sounded ok.any SH members still have one of these. What is the Model Number?

My question is....

Why would anyone want to record at a slower speed than 1 & 7/8" per second? I would think that, if anything, you would want to double the speed! Just my 2 pennies worth!

Wow. I was just thinking about this deck. Radio stations bought em to take Loooonnng airchecks on air (monitoring) and it was also useful to take hour by hour samples from other radio stations.

I'll agree with the last post though. Hey, it's great for taping long radio shows, but otherwize, heck, get a pro-Sony Dat. You can record for a couple hours at a time in a familiar digital format. The tapes aren't that expensive, besides.

There's also MiniDisc and CDR. Everything will beat the pants off of playing back cassette tape. Not that expensive to invest in these kinds of decks. Even a big, bulky open reel at 7.5ips is better bandwith to blow.

I have this machine, the Nakamichi 680. Great deck. I use it only for playback. I tried slow speed recording a couple of times for fun, but there's no real point to it. It was promoted as a way to record long radio shows without interruption, right, but this was way before digital formats were around.
