View Full Version : Steve, a Ray Charles question
Steve,
Just curious as to whether there is any difference between Ray Charles: Ingrediants In A Recipe For Soul on gold cd as opposed to the aluminum cd version?
PS. Holy Zoo, I noticed that the Sandstone aluminum isn't listed on the discography 1990;)

Yes, Dave the 1st, there is. The silver version was mastered on solid state gear, and has more of a clinical sound. The Gold version was mastered with vacuum tubes, and has a more euphonic sound, much like they would have heard it back in 1963 during playback, with all that nifty tube studio equipment they had at Capitol's New York studio.
I prefer listening to the Gold version, but I'll take the Silver in a pinch...

Thanks Steve,
I thought it sounded like some of the songs ended kind of abruptly.
Guess which one I just got (now where's that pouty lip icon).
Oh well, more gold cd searching I guess.
