Can anyone tell me anything about the following Stones Japanese CD issues? I will link one of the pages (Between The Buttons) from the HMV Website.
Thanks,
-Jon

From my experiences from hmv.co.uk, the customer support is pretty good. I asked about the Frank Sinatra Capitol Years box set, and I was e-mailed back within a day. The person who responded was an actual store manager or employee who walked over to where they kept their CD's, picked up the box set, and looked through it to get me my answer.

If hmv.co.jp is anything like that, you could try e-mailing them and asking for more information (a track listing, any "Mobile Fidelity" credit, etc.)

Hope this helps a little bit,
Matt

They list Beatles Japanese release from '98 too. I'm assuming they're probably the same as the American releases but who knows?

If anyone wants help with Japanese knowing more about japanese releases, especially reading/translating text I can help out, anyone is welcome to drop me a line.
hmv.co.jp is pretty good and its one of the only stores online in Japan that can do orders in English as well. However shipping costs outside the contry will cost you more than the disc! Its free within Japan;)
I wouldn't expect detailed information in English, tracklist at most... If you do have a query I could pose it to them in Japanese.

This Rolling Stone release is subtitled 'american pressing'. therefore its likely to be just that, with perhaps Japanese commentary/lyrics extra.

Thanks James. I thought it looked too good to be true. They do seem like an excellent source for a lot of jazz CDs I'm looking for. Do you know if, when checking out, you can determine what your total cost in US dollars will be? If not, could you give me an idea of what (for example) 1,800 is in US dollars?

The current exchange rate is somewhere around 130 Yen to the dollar. That makes it about $13.84.

Just looked at the link. The cover is wrong, as the most current series of Stones CDs in Japan look just like the ones in the US. Also, I have heard that the currant Japanese pressing of Between the Buttons uses the old London masters and sounds quite good, but I cannot confirm this. At the very least, it may sound better than the standard US release. I bought the Japanese pressing of the Rolling Stones - Singles Collection and it sounds better than the US pressing. Much clearer with more a bit more punch. They probably took the tapes sent to them and 吐ixed them with a little EQ. It would not surprise me in the least. Even my copy of the Japanese Abkco 鄭ftermath sounds better. Still narrow stereo to the point of being mono, but better sounding IMHO.

Japanese vinyl was also amazing. At one time I had a few thousand of them...Same goes for most of their cds. Funny I had to buy Japanese CDs of American Artists that were not released here and are STILL not released here. Rediculous.

I can't read the Japanese, but listening to the Real Audio samples tells me that the first track is "Let's Spend the Night Together", and the third track is "Ruby Tuesday". These songs only appeared on the US version of the album. The old, good London CD had a track lineup which corresponded to the original British version of the album, and did not include those two songs. Since it is the US version of the album as far as tracklist, it seems *highly* likely that the ****** US Abkco master tapes were used, as they are everywhere else in the world now. I doubt they would get ahold of the London tapes and then reconfigure them to correspond to the US album tracklistings.

I beg to differ. Both the German and Japanese London 釘etween the buttons followed the US track listing. I have no idea why, as the UK track listing is much better, IMHO. I made a CDR with the proper order and it has a great vibe that the US version lacks. Perhaps you are thinking of 鄭ftermath. The London CDs used the UK tracklisting.

yes, the exchange rate is going ion your favour at the moment but shipping costs will be around 1000en, although you can check this, when you check out could be more.
I have managed to pick up lots of items, like Gene Clark's 'No Other' through the major labels subsidiary reissue specialists.
There's a lot of stuff out there, if you find anything and don't understand I'll try try and translate if you send me the link.
