View Full Version : What's the best score you've ever had on a Steve Hoffman recording
Mine has got to be Bob Dylan: Hi-way 61 Revisited for approx. $6.50 US. in absolute perfect shape.:D

That's pretty impressive!
Mine would be the DCC LP, open but mint, of CCR's Willy and the Poor Boys, which I found in a used-record shop for $12.
It's worth a whole lot more than that to me, I can tell you ...
Otherwise, I got some pretty cool deals on some cutout DCC jazz gold CDs at MusicforaSong.com. I think I got four of 'em in one order (The Musings of Miles and The New Miles Davis Quintet by Mr. Davis, Sonny Rollins' Tenor Madness, and a live Wes Montgomery) for $14 each ... maybe less, I can't remember.
There is also, of course, the MCA Who's Next CD for under $10 from HMV.ca ... but that's not an unusual one ... Never got one for as low as $6.50!

Red Rose Speedway, $6.99 used at Compact Disc Warehouse in Sunnyvale. Whoo-hoo!
Actually Jeff it was also my first intrduction to Steve's work as well.
I just happened to open it and low and behold a gold cd. "Wow! I gotta get this".
I had already purchased MFSL's The Wall and Dark Side so I was some what familiar with the gold cd format but I had never heard of DCC before so I thought hey, it can't hurt to give this label an audition and needless to say I've been scrounging for alot of the titles ever since.

I was surprised to find my copy of the first Doors CD for only $14 (sealed) at Streetlight Records in SF. Too bad they didn't have "Strange Days" there too that day!

All of my great deals were before I realized what a great label DCC was. I picked up Lost & Found at a PharMor drug store for $3.99. I got both of Ray Charles' Greatest Hits for $5 each but stupidly passed up McCartney's first album at a outlet mall CD shop for $9.99.
Recently, I happily picked up a sealed copy of Pet Sounds for $24.99.

When CD's hit I was in a NYC record store and all their half speed and 45 RPM lp's were marked down below the cost of the regular lp issues. I picked up a bunch for about $4.50 a pop. If anyone has HW-61 they want to give or sell to me.:D

I've picked up about 10 great DCC Hoffmanized gold Jazz CD over the past few months for $9.99 at www.musicforasong.com. Best was Art Peper Intensity for $4.99.
Sale is still on - just click on "Music" in the pull down menu, then "Music" (on the left column) then "Gold". Shipping is $1.99 per order (not per CD). Never had a problem with them.
CCR Pendelum is still there for $14.99.
I want to thank the person who originally posted this info in the DCC forum last year.

One of the members of the dcc board sold me aound 10 titles for about $250. They included Ringo, Hwy 61,Ram,Orbison, etc. They were all in great condition and helped me get a jump building my collection.

Most of mine I've had for years and don't remember what I paid but a few weeks ago I found a used copy of the Mama's and the Papas 16 Greatest Hits for $8.
BTW how much did a vinyl copy of "Buddy Holly:For the First Time Anywhere" (my first Hoffman) go for in 1983? Probably not more than $ 8.99.

I think I got everybody beat!
The gold disc:
ELVIS - 24 KARAT HITS! $0 :)
The catch:
I got suckered into paying one hundred and some $US to become a "life time" (a short one) subscriber to "The Tracking Angle" when my subscription still had more than one year left. :(
I still haven't seen an issue of "Sound & Vision" Michael Fremer tried to transfer TVA subscription to, not that I want to read that rag, hem, mag.
To look at the brighter side, I can't do any worse than this with any other DCC purchase. ;)

Well...Out of the 30+ Gold DCC cds I own. I pretty much paid the price NO real bargains. No matter what, they are WORTH the PRICE!
