Steve, was there much at CES that caught your interest?

I've read some reports that Sony/Philips had a big push for SACD but DVD-A was low profile. Universal announced some titles on SACD. Pioneer showed their combo player DV-47A.

Great news about S&P!

Very true and accurate picture.

SACD was given a big push, but the DVD-A folks were hiding somewhere. We actually had to search to find anything that we could show our fearless front man Bill Straw about DVD-A. Never did find a good demo for him.

Strange.

He enjoyed the Sony SACD demo at the Convention Center. BUT, Sony should have also been at the Alexis Park, where the Audiophiles hang out. Mistake on their part, I think.

My biggest surprise was the giant amount of vinyl on display, and the turntables in almost every room. It showed us that LP's are still a big part of the community.

Verrrrrry interesting.

No audio dealer without turntables... and the upcoming High End in Francfort will show the same like at the CES. There a lot of german manufactures... they also build "State of the Art" turntables... in the same league as VPI, Rockport etc.

I'm happy that I have purchased a lot of vinyl in the past, and I'm also happy I got all stuff from DCC. I love it... and I will never sell any of these collector items!

Yes, sometimes I wish I invested in vinyl, but I sold what little I had in the late-'80s and jumped on the CD bandwagon. Big mistake. Now I have high hopes for SACD but if it doesn't get rolling within the next couple years there's a good turntable calling my name.

I love my LP's... especially my DCC's and some old classics that sound horrible but I still love 'em for the music.

I am SOOOO happy to hear that LP's are still going strong... Can't wait to see what comes out of S&P. And of course, I will still buy all DCC LP's.

I must admit I do buy CD's too, I have a bunch of DCC Golds and others - for the car and when I just want to listen casually.

When I really want to enjoy, I bring out the LP's and spin the table. I wish I could replace all of my "old standby's" with Steve mastered LP's though!
;)

THAT would be heaven!!:)

I have to admit that I'm not into vinyl. I do, however, admire those that do. Back when I had vinyl I didn't know how to take care of it or properly setup a turntable. Now, while I know I could, I'm not interested in the high maintenance and investment. Been tempted but I realized I'm better off with SACD/CD.

Curious that there's that much interest in vinyl at CES. Perhaps a growing dissatisfaction with CDs? And maybe a good measure of the desire for the "retro" aspect maybe. The more complicated & cheap the new techno gadgets, the more attractive the old (yet elegant).

Steve, I saw a blurb on CNBC about a personal hovercraft at CES. Did you catch sight of that?!

Greetings...
I spent 1 day at alexas park at the CES(had to spend the rest of the time at the main convention center for my work). Loved to see all the turntables and listen to the sweet sound of vinyl. wished the rooms were a little bit bigger though, don't like sitting 4 ' from the speakers. Denon did a little DVD audio to show off there new AVR5803, but I was hoping to listen to both SACD and DVD-A more extensively!. Got to buy a few new discs, but no DCC's. Just a few cd's were available. I sure hope the new owners continue with vinyl, as the highend area showed...it is alive and well. Interesting I didn't see VPI. Did I miss them?
