View Full Version : Headphone cord recommendations
Something's happened to the headphone cord on my Sennheisers. Not sure what, maybe just getting old, but only the left side gets a continuing signal. I know it's the cord because if you jiggle it a bit, the right side will occasionally get a signal (playing with the contacts don't seem to have an effect, so I'm certain it's the wire(s) inside).
Anyway, before I place an order to Sennheiser for a new cord, I was wondering if there was huge difference among headphone cords? If so, are there better replacements I can get than the ones Sennheiser uses?

I think only Sennheiser makes the exact cord you need.
I guess that settles it. Thanks, Steve.

If you ever need an extension cord, I highly suggest buying one from Grado, quality cords (and everything else really).
Thanks for the additional suggestions. Cardas looks really tempting. Expensive, about ten times as much as the stock Sennheiser packages with their phones, but probably that much better, too.

Do your Sennheiser's have the Y cords with the flat side on one of the four sides of each end that plugs into the phones? I am sure you can find upgrades online somewhere. Maybe head over to HTF and see what they suggest.

What model Senn's do you have, I have 600's with a Cardas cable, I have the original Senn cord (used once or twice). Maybe you would like it used.

Before you order anything, did you reverse the left and right connections to make sure it was the cable? If the problem changes sides, it's the cable; if it remains in the right channel, it's -- gulp -- your 'phones, or possibly something upstream of the headphone cable.
I had a dropout problem similar to yours, and it turned out to be in the headphone amp -- the little jiggle, thump, or tug I'd give the 'phones was enough movement for the loose headphone jack to re-establish a tenuous connection with the circuit board. My brother re-soldered the headphone jack; problem solved.
I've got a pair of 600's, and it's definitely the cable. I think I may spring for the Cardas, see how that works out.
Thanks again!

You will like it and it has much better reinforcement than the originals so it should last longer.
