I'm curious - how did you get to be guy who dug through MCA's back catalog and come up with ideas for comps? Did you work your way up through the ranks in the mailroom, or was your radio background your ticket into the mysterious world of mastering tunes?

I did work my way up, but believe me, no one else much wanted to do it. Everyone else wanted to be in the "happening" world of A&R. Hanging out at clubs & stuff, trying to find the next whoever, knocking back drinks on the company and trying to get laid.

Sigh. I just wanted to listen to Bing Crosby, The Who and Buddy Holly.

Steve Have you ever heard any Bing Crosby/Louis Armstrong duets? Now that would be a great remaster project.

:) That's the greatest thing I've read in awhile! I knew I had what it takes to be in the music business. I probably would have thrown Howlin' Wolf in there too.

Steve , when did you attend CSUN , what years? And were you involved with any recording in the Music dept.? I was ther from 1975 til 1978.

I was there from 1973-78. We did some recordings in the music department for KCSN, but the equipment seemed to be a bit too "US Army Signal Corp. radio surplus" for us, so we just let the music department do it. I guess we didn't like the mics or something, I can't remember.

Were you a music major? Did you ever have Dr. Russell? She was the only Prof. who ever scared me enough to practice piano on a regular basis, for hours, every day and night of the week. It didn't do much good, but thanks to her, I can still play pretty good.

Steve, yes I was a Trumpet Major. Dr. Skaspki (Music History), scared me. if he asked you a question in class and you could'nt answer it, that was considered an "F" for the week!!! The guy had seven Doctorates!!!!!
