If there is a choice between US 1st press Verve Forecast and the UK 2nd press MGM ('car' cover) of Caravan S/T first record which one you'd prefer jugding by its sonic quality?

Any experience here?

Thanks in advance.

I've owned both however I prefer the UK because the vinyl is quieter plus the US version sells for about $100 and the UK can be had used for $10. This is one of the sadly missing from CD gems. The CD reissues of the later albums with bonus tracks are highly recommended plus they were issued in the Japan in the mini lp covers.
Now as far as LP's are concerned the UK pressing of "For Girls Who Grow" is particularly good sounding. In fact the UK pressings of all their other LP's are hands down winners.

Quiet vinyl is a good thing if the rest of the sound parameters are equal or even better. That's quite obviously the case for 1st press UK LPs. I absolutely agree. In case of UK 2nd press it becomes more tricky. What generation master tape was used in case of 1 press US and 2nd press UK LP. If you used to have both may I ask you for more detailed comparison of these two versions?

Thanks in advance.

Since I sold the US version several years ago prior to getting the UK version I honestly can give a comaprison. The US was a WLP and I got mucho bucks for it.

My feeling is to prefer the second ('Car cover') MGM/Polydor mastering. It sounds to me a little more smooth and certainly has more reverb. and this suits the material. The very rare 'Guys in Togas' Verve Forecast UK (EMI? my copy is over there) sounds too dry to me.
