Here is a photo of the main part of my stereo, the surround speakers are on the left and right side of my bed which of course for obvious reasons aren't pictured.

Quite a "bedroom" setup :D That would take up most of mine!

A "tour" of my setup in text:
On the nightstand: 2 speakers and the minisystem receiver
On the top shelves of the microwave stands: an RCA TV, a Gemini turntable and 2 more speakers
On the middle shelf on the left microwave stand: the digital cable converter made by Motorola sitting on top of the GE DVD player.
On the middle shelf on the right microwave stand: An American Audio (American DJ) DJ mixer. American DJ's audio line is much better than the rest of their products.
On the bottom shelf of the left microwave stand: A Magnavox HiFi VCR sitting on top of the Sony CD/MiniDisc combo deck
On the bottom shelf of the right microwave stand next to a pair of Toshiba headphones is a Sanyo dual cassette deck from 1984.

Bradley,

Nice set-up! It looks as though you have added some equipment!

Bob:)

Hey Bradley,

Don't blame ya for not taking a picture of your bed. Some of these old men around here get really worked up when they see a picture of beautiful women! :)

Bob, yes I have added equipment and that's why I wrote the "tour" (actually an explanation to be more correct for the "Politically Correct" type of people).

Now I know what you mean by "versatility" CB!

Do you ever do "mix CDs"? I used to do mix tapes with airplane noises, like dive bombers from WW2 in the middle of songs! Now that I finally have a burner I'm thinking of getting creative again....

I do my custom comps on MD and use the CD burner for trading with others.

Very elaborate, Greg. The stereo in our living room isn't much at all. It has a poor quality turntable (which doesn't work), a dual cassette deck and a radio but we only use the radio on it anyway plus it doesn't have an AUX jack so I can't get a mixer for it. My bedroom setup is the best stereo setup in this entire house.

Hey Man:
Why not list all those cool components on your profile so we can match them up with the picture?

Thanks!

My profile has been updated to include the current bedroom stereo components but I just typed the tour to make it in layman's terms and to explain further what I mean.

Greg: do you have any problems with heat having that monitor above the fireplace?

I have a dilemma--the only good wall for this kind of thing (monitor, front speakers) would be the wall the fireplace is on. I still use the fireplace (haven't turned it into a subwoofer ;) ), and can't afford a plasma screen. I've thought of front projection and a screen above the fireplace, but the brick on my fireplace runs from hearth to ceiling. And after the cost of a projector and screen, I'd be paying as much as I would for plasma. :(

I posted a layout of my room here a couple of months ago, but didn't get much input on it. I'm almost tempted to not even bother with any kind of TV at this point. :(

I deleted this post - possibly could have been misunderstood.

Bradley,

If I understand correctly, your system was put together with a great deal of care and an exceptional sense of value for money. How long have you owned all of these components?

Bradly:
Do you have problems playing vinyl with the speakers so close to the 'table? I had a set up with the vinyl rig close to the speakers some time ago and I got lots of feedback and other nasties. I could only listen to LPs through phones.

I only get amp noise and other normal stuff and am making do with what I can do which is what I am doing. I've owned the turntable for a couple of years, I just got the American DJ mixer on Tuesday as the right stereo channel on my Gemini doesn't work. I've got the DVD player since after this past Christmas, I got the CD/MD combo deck and the Sanyo cassette deck in February 2002, I've had the VCR since 2001 and have had digital cable since 2002 as well and yes it was put together with care and an exceptional sense of value for money.

and BTW, it was this forum that influenced me to add on to my stereo system. None of my equipment is tube, but it is some of the better solid state being made today. I don't want to go through the worry of tube when they go out, etc.

Done. I've since added a couple things, such as the VPI Scout turntable.

Since that pic was taken last year, I've moved out of the condo into a house that doesn't have a fireplace. During the time I lived in the condo with the plasma installed, I never had a fire. I think it would be fine with a duraflame log or two, but probably not with a full raging fire. The plasma itself can get very hot, so it's designed to deal with heat. If you were to install one over the fireplace and did want to have fires, I'd install a heat-resistant shelf beneath it, and wouldn't run it at the same time the fire is going. I think you'd pay more for a projector/screen setup, although that's the elegant approach to HT over the fireplace.

Enjoy that fine system
Cheers!
