I just bought this blasted thing in April, and I found it this afternoon and went right through a record. Found the cantivileer was gone.
Sorry to be such a whiner, but...Questions:
1. Would this be under warranty?
2. Is the styli replacement if NOT under warranty $20 or $50 and
3. How long do they take from a send-to-return trip?
Neurotically yours (and bummed out)

Hi Sckott, sorry about the damage...bummer.
1. Don't know. I guess it would depend on why/how it broke.
2. Mine was replaced, out of warranty, for $50.
3. It was less than 2 weeks from the time I shipped it until the new one arrived.
Take care,
Matt

Just give Shure a call; they are very decent to deal with. Even replaced my V15-V stylus after I through it away for a nominal fee so long as I sent them in my older V15-III stylus.

I called them yesterday (Barbara) and since the stylus was under warranty, they're going to replace it at N/C.
Breath of fresh air in the world of audiophile splendor. If this was a Rega cart, I would be totally SOL.

Hey, Sckott, great news that Shure's taking care of the problem. Problems with carts are enough to drive one to drink but I'm glad you got satisfaction from them!! :)

I know. A LOT of us have been there. Hosed cantivileer is enough to make you wanna die! :(
Shure is very reachable, and they even called me back when I left a message. Last time this happened, was when I called AKG for my 240M's (mid 80's!). RARELY EVER does good customer relationship in electronics exist, especially audio, where it can be sensitive and expensive.

Shure still does business the old-fashioned way,
by taking care of those who bought their product.
Their turnaround time is really fast, too!
Nice people to deal with.

I think it's more of a goodwill gesture than anything: that stylus assembly cannot be very cheap to manufacture. But think about it--you buy a new cartridge and bust the cantilever after a few weeks. In all honesty, they shouldn't even have to offer a warranty for that sort of breakage. That Sckott gets a free warranty replacement, and I got the $50 replacement, speaks volumes. I'd never own another cartridge than my V15V-MR anyway, but it sure gives me a good feeling knowing I'm supporting a company that still cares for its customers.
