Thanks Angel. I hope they can now go forth with some of the projects Steve mentioned earlier. Talent is a terrible thing to waste. ;)

Methinks Steve ain't gonna say too much until he finds out more.

Seems to be a little bit of bias on this board.

Why you ask?

Well 2 nights ago I posted on the general topic discussion forum about this very thing, which I could and still can prove and our beloved Mr. Hoffman nuked it with out so much as an email to me to explain why.

Hmmmm.....!!

Check out how I found out 2 days ago.

Dave,

What you said was: You just found out that DCC is IN Chapter 11.

We nuked it because DCC is NOT in Chapter 11.

Simple as that. We'd been in it for a year or more, and people had the kindness (mostly) not to mention it. Then, the week we are finally coming out of it, your post hits. Of course I nuked it.

Why drive the CD and LP prices higher? C'mon. They are high enough. I already yelled at Tom Port for doing that, and we hate when the mail order houses do it, so.......

I mean, Dave, my man, if you had a chat room I wouldn't go posting on there, "Hey, I just heard from someone that you are getting a divorce!". I'd probably e-mail you FIRST, eh? :)

Hmmmm, and I never knew ANYTHING about this either! Ahhh well, that's a good thing because I'd just have worried about the 'fate' of DCC! Glad to get the good news!

I wonder if Tom Port would have the DCC Juice Newton release? I've ordered it locally but it's been two months..... don't think it's coming. Should I e-mail him or try to get it from DCC.....? Looks like he has all the stock.

So I'd guess DCC is starting fresh with brand new stock! A revitalized company!

Congratulations, Steve and to all at DCC! Here's to many years of awsome releases! Cheers!

Gary

PS I always think of S&P Records as Sneaky Pete Records. Just a label / logo idea for ya! ;)

I think this is my fault. Sorry, Steve!

Dave

Just to set the record straight. Angel this isn't your fault.

What exactly was said was (title)" Am I the only one who didn't know that DCC had filed chapter11"? Then I said that "I just found out about it through Tom Port at Better Records via ebay", and it is the truth, by the way, as my previous link states.

Steve, if you would have let me email you I might have but there is no direct access to you through any means except this forum ie. no personal messages, no direct email. So ultimately there would have been at least 1 other person in the know between you and I where as if you had chosen to mail me I'm wide open with direct access and instead you chose not to.

I believe that everyone on this forum who has supported you and your work for many years and has been waiting patiently for some more product and heard nothing and seen less in the past 11/2 years had a right to know the reality of what's really going on, not some sugar coated false hope.

As far as the divorced thing goes: if I'm silly enough to let someone know who is really not trustworthy then I deserve what I get

Please remember Steve that I was not stating something that was untrue, just factual as is proven by this post.

Not to beat a dead horse and I'm surely not an expert but there is a world of difference between Chapter 11 and Chapter 7. 11 is a court regulated reorganization. 7 is more everybody be damned (although I guess at times a person has no other choice)

my 2 cents

Gary

Which book are these chapters found in?

Don't say "the book of law", Larry! ;) :D

OK, Chapter 11 is protection from creditors so the company can reorganize, right? So what is Chapter 7? No hope?

It's a bit different here in Canada and other places around the world. Sorry for my ignorance. :(

BTW, thanks for the tip, Angel!

Angel

Chapter 11 is "reorganization protection". The court lets you try and reorganize before the creditors take over and sell your file cabinets, etc. Most companies never come out of it alive. DCC did! Hence my first happy post.

Chapter 7 is "bankruptcy". The company is protected from creditors, and basically screws everyone who they owe money to.

Steve,

What's the relationship between DCC and S&P? Are there going to be conflicts on issues like your schedule, your input on choosing release titles, utilizing your connections in the record industry, etc.?

I am not sure if you have answered these questions earlier in a different thread and just feel they are relevant to the latest DCC news.

Steve Hoffman

I don't know yet, Paul.

We will just have to wait and see. When I know anything about the new DCC, I will post it on my website first!

Hi,

I used to play alot of b-ball until I became Old & In The Way. Did this ever happen to you? You start playin' a game on your own court and as the game goes along it gets faster & tougher and the next thing you know you get blind sided and you're on the ground seeing stars. Your natural reaction is to get up & kick a** with a don't be bringing that into my house spirit. Sometimes that is exactly what you do b/c you are only human. Was this the right response? Maybe that depends on what type of player the other guy is which can usually be determined by how he has played in the past. Is he known for dirty play or is he a good guy who plays hard b/c he is trying to learn and play the game better? Should both of these players be treated the same when they foul somebody or is it a rather safe bet that when the dirty player fouls someone it is intentional and should result in a technical foul and when the clean player fouls someone it is unintentional and only part of the game?

Just Askin',
Jeffrey

This is asked without any nastiness or disrespect Jeffrey but...what's your point and how does this relate to the current thread ?

Thanks - ED

It doesn't matter ED. ;) It's a sensitive issue, lets just leave it at that.

Steve Hoffman
02-07-2002, 10:11 AM
Well, folks, it is a sensitive issue for me, just because I don't know what will happen next at DCC. I mean, I know what I WANT to happen, but that is beside the point. So, yes it's sensitive, but I don't mind talking about it here on the Forum. We are all a little touchy about it. Please realize that it is hard to answer all of your questions when I don't know the answers. The plan right now, is to get the company up and running again.

This entire Chapter 11 thing has been a strain on all of us; you loyal DCC fans and me. Especially me; I've been working at DCC Compact Classics since May 1987. That's a lot of years, ain't it?

So, we'll see what is going to happen. Now that DCC is out of Chapter 11, things should move quickly. Stay tuned! :)

I know most of what will happen with DCC in the near future is still up in the air, but can we expect some of the DCC catalog will be issued again? Or will releases be limited to new projects?

And congratulations Steve. Good news for those of us who've enjoyed your work over the years...

Mike

DCC has a certain reputation, but I think this the time to pick up where Rhino left off.

Reissues could be a good way to get the revenue flowing again. Also, silver-disc reissues would be good because many things just won't make it to gold disc. I imagine mainly classic rock titles will make the cut to gold. Ah, but Steve will still have to do his magic on everything, including any silver discs the company may put out, IF it wanted to go in that direction.

I don't know, i'm just throwing out suggestions...

The way I interpreted it is that Jeffrey meant his basketball story as an analogy for the mild conflict between Dave and Steve regarding Dave's introduction of the Chapter 11 topic on the forum. I think he's trying to explain why Steve might feel touchy about the topic being introduced...

Hey Czeskleba,

BINGO! That's the point I was addressing with the addition that Dave is a nice guy with a nice heart who didn't mean any harm. Geez, the guy has somewhere around 600+ posts on this and the last archived board and if ya read a few of them it's pretty easy to see that I have the right interpretation of Dave. This is the only board I ever go to b/c it's a great concept with a hip sponsor, a great moderator, and smart/kind members. We need each other.

Damn! I thought Jeffrey was calling Steve out for a little one on one in Steve's driveway. I thought it would be a great addition to the forum members convention. Oh, well....

I know that Dave #1 didn't mean any harm. He was just posting something he heard about DCC. I'm sure he didn't realize that the drama regarding DCC's financial problems has been with me 24/7 for well over a year. He didn't mean to push my "arggh" button. I think he knows that. :)
