Great news. Don't get any salsa on those tapes. Heh heh! :)
BTW Steve, are you also the man behind the Riverside and Prestige SACD's Acoustic Sounds will be releasing?

Just a few of them, like "Sexyphone Colossus".
The rest are going to be repressed from the OJC stampers.

Guys, the Creedence tapes BADLY need to be remixed.
They are just about totally MONO. I know the reason is John Fogerty, because thats what he wanted, but someones gotta sit him down and tell him that a stereo mix CAN be done that doesnt sound pukey.
At LEAST seperate the guitars from being on top of each other.
A friend told me that the Quad issues of the CCR material are quite good. I'm trying to get ahold of some of those.

Mikey,
As an avid quad collector and a big CCR fan, I can tell you that there was only one quad CCR lp released, namely CCR Gold. The tracks are:
1. BAD MOON RISING
2. THE MIDNIGHT SPECIAL
3. BORN ON THE BAYOU
4. SUSIE Q
5. PROUD MARY
6. DOWN ON THE CORNER
7. I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE
8. HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THE RAIN
As a side note, there is currently a copy of the quad 8 track currently on ebay. Only the third copy I've seen in the past two years. It's at $30.00 right now but expect it to go for at least close to doulble that.

Steve,
Will this be on Chad Kassem's "Anaolgue Productions" label or another label?

Hey Mikey, there are definitely a few CCR tracks that are pretty much mono (Bad Moon Rising immediately comes to mind), but for the most part the stereo image is not bad on the rest of the stuff - go slap on Steve's take on Green River - whooo doggies it's mighty nice and wide! Over at the BSN site this comes up a lot - one poster had even written John Fogerty (late 60's or early 70-71) and asked about some of the pretty much mono stuff and Mr. F. wrote back (!) and said he was just trying to get a certain sound on those tunes. Maybe Steve can comment on the tapes and mixing choices that were made - I betcha he's got some idea why those tapes sound the way they do (and why remixing might not make much of a difference)...

Awesome! Any chance we will see more of these titles, beyond the first batch of five? Can't wait to check'm out. What condition were the tapes in, relative to the last time you transferred them for DCC?
Next time you're in the OJC vaults howzabout quickly remastering all the Booker Ervin stuff while no one's looking and getting it out on SACD? ;)

The Creedence tracks that sound like mono, are not mono, but just very thin stereo. So thin, that they made the "Book Of Lists" as the narrowest stereo mixes ever made.
Why did they do this? Fogerty was concerned about MONO/Stereo compatability. This was at the time that MONO LP's were phased out of production. So, Fogerty wanted the hit singles to be mixed very narrow in stereo. The mono tapes used to cut the old 45's are just dubs of these narrow stereo mixes.
He felt he got "THE" mix, and he wasn't about to do any remixes in wider stereo for anyone.
Funny, a few years later, the "Quad" mixes of the narrow stereo songs showed just how bad a Creedence remix can be. Nice wide stereo, but none of the "Sun Records" sound that made the original sizzle.
All of the tapes are in great shape.
Oh yeah, if you don't believe me about the narrow stereo, listen to "Proud Mary" or "Bad Moon Rising" on headphones. Everything sounds pretty much mono until the lead guitar comes in off to your right. Yup, that's it for stereo. Funky, eh?
