I was stunned Monday night while viewing Craig Fergusion reading
    viewer mail.
A joke that I posted here a week or two ago here on the board,
that I think I made up was used.

The joke was about "If Wiley Coyote has money to buy all that stuff
from Acme Products, why doesn't he just go buy a nice dinner?".

To which our host Steve Hoffman replied "Its the thrill of the hunt!".

Craig read a letter from a viewer in North Carolina asking the same question
that I had posted here on the board.
Then Craig Fergusion answered "Its The thrill of the hunt!".

Well I almost fell off my girl friend!

Does Craig Ferguson (or one of his staff) read the Hoffman Board ? ? ?
    If so, Howdy !

Maybe one of his viewers in North Carolina reads the forum.

I would not be surprised at all if someone from his staff is a member of this forum. You know why? There was a thread a few months back discussing favorite late night hosts. Someone posted in that thread that they though Craig was okay, but that his show was ruined by use of a laugh track. IIRC, the very next day on his show Craig said he was tired of people on the internet accusing him of using a laugh track. Coincidence perhaps, but I thought it was really strange.

Fly talks to another fly and says, "Let's see how I can use one of my pickup lines on this fem-fly".

So he flys down to her on a pile of poo. "Excuse me, is this stool taken?"

    Stolen, so there.

I doubt those viewer mail questions are really sent in by viewers. More than likely they are the work of the show's writers.

Remember Rosanne Rosannadanna from SNL? Every letter she ever read on the air was from the same person. "A Mr. Richard Fader of Fort Lee, New Jersey writes..." :)

    Congratulations, Bill!

I think Craig's show is wonderful and his monologue is untouchable. Certainly the best since Carson. He has a very natural, "one on one" delivery and an ability to convey the material in a manner that makes it all look and sound spontaneous. The great ones always make it look easy and he is definitely one of the greats.

Wow, look who's trying to get his name mentioned on a future show.
    :D ;)

Of course, if Ferguson really does have a "mole" who swipes material from SH Forum members, I'm very surprised he hasn't used Sean Keane's "I met my wife in a nightclub..." joke yet.

While I have my doubts that it's more than coincidence, I can't pass up the opportunity to get a plug from good ole' Fergie:

HEY CRAIG!!! "ASHLEY TISDALE" by MY BRAVE FACE is available for download now from iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, and more. Go to www.myspace.com/jaredlekitesfriends to find out more about the group.

[Ah, no matter how old I get, I'll still be starved for attention. lol.]

I heard a similar joke about 100 years ago. It's not new, or original.

While the premise of the joke might not be original, I think Bill's "thrill of the hunt" tag is. People have been making jokes about the Road Runner for decades. Why would this old concept make its way onto TV in 2008 if it weren't inspired by some new addition to the old idea? Are today's professional comedy writers any more ethical than the thieves of yesterday?

EDIT: I just read those posted clips and it has indeed been around for awhile, but, still - Ferguson's writers were not original.

I thought I was the only one who called Steak and Ale "Ache and Stale" until I read the Bennigan's thread.

This very thing happened to me about 1980. A joke I'd been performing at various venues in New York City was stolen. I was shocked to see my joke done on the Johnny Carson show.

The guy, who had a New York accent only had one other joke that was actually funny. I figured he stole that one too. His 4 or 5 other jokes were lousy. I suppose he actually might have written them.

In the highly competitive world of comedy, stolen jokes are commonplace.
