At least I think I am!

After 7 years of acquiring the best recordings I could find from....ahem....various sources ;) I believe that I now own every Beatles album that was "officially" released either in the U.K. or the U.S. or Japan in Stereo AND Mono.

I can't think of any that I'm missing. I have the early 1984 "Abbey Road" CD from Japan, I have VeeJay's "Introducing...", I have "The Hollywood Bowl" and even the almost released "Sessions".

Most of these are the absolute best needle-drops I could find, and I've gone through 6 or 7 different versions of some of these albums whenever I've found a better sounding version.

I have every single U.S. and U.K. album in Stereo and Mono except those that were never made in Mono.

Can anyone think of any ultra rare "officially" released albums that I may have missed? I'm talking about albums (LP's or CD's) that were released by either VeeJay, EMI-Parlophone, Capitol, or Apple records.

I'd love to think that I have everything, but I'm sure I'm missing something!

Thanks!!

Did you get The Beatles Christmas Album?

Although it was officially released and the bootleg counterfits are good, the Beatles Christmas Fan Club LP on Apple is a nice piece, and wild and weird as well.

I assume you have "The Beatles Story", the Capitol fan record release that's 2Lps, 12 min a side that content-wize smells like brillcream and Electric Shave. An interesting record, but not very original, and definately a Capitol milking of the fab cow.

You won't get penelized if you don't have either. They don't get many spins in my house.

Did you get The Beatles Christmas Album Yep :)

Courtesy of Yellow Dog Records..catalog # YD031

Contains all 7 Beatle Christmas records and even a tape of the outtakes of the making of some of the tapes!

Good suggestion though!

assume you have "The Beatles Story I have this too, although I admit to only actuay listening to it once. Boring as all get out.

I would be more interested in the final source used for the best of each (stereo and mono). As a secondary curiosity - did ANY of the official CD's make the cut??

Did you also get Celluloid Rock?;)

I would be more interested in the final source used for the best of each (stereo and mono). Actually this is a great suggestion.

Keep in mind that these are only the best I've heard so far. I'm always on the lookout for better, but I'm extraordinarily happy with what I've got now.

All the U.K. Stereo albums are sourced from MFSL virgin vinyl, the sound quality is unbelieveable...no surface noise, no artifacts whatsoever. "Sgt. Pepper" is from a UHQR LP and is just astounding.

All the U.K. Mono albums are from virgin U.K. Vinyl with the exception of the first 2 albums which are the original EMI CD's The "Sgt. Pepper" Mono is from the original U.K. release that someone needle-dropped for me on a $20,000 tube-amped turntable system. We used an ART DI/O Analog to Digital converter to make the CD.

All the U.S. Stereo AND mono are from Capitol Vinyl, most are from the re-releases in the 80s, but they sound pretty damn good; "Rarities" and "Hey Jude" sound just amazing. So does "Magical Mystery Tour". I never listen to the U.S. versions of the Red and Blue albums because the Japanese ones are so much better.

All the Japanese albums are from heavy Japanese Vinyl except the 1984 Abbey Road and "Hollywood Bowl" which are from CD.

Everything else is from CD or a CD that was made from a tape or acetate. Some of them to be honest I just don't know the original source.

Thanks for helping everyone.

Dave,

I do not have this one. What is it exactly? Thanks.

Ric,

It's on Yellow Dog as well and the # is YD 006 1991.

It is a compilation album with 15 songs on it.

It is a compilation album with 15 songs on it. O.k. Which songs? I'm guessing tracks from their films?

I don't know if I'd count this as an "official" release. Would I be correct in that assumption?

:)

Ric,

Sorry for taking so long to reply as I couldn't access the site for about an hour.

I don't know whether it's official or not, is Yellow Dog official?

The 15 songs are as follows:

I've Got A Feeling
Shake, Rattle And Roll
Medley: Kansas City, Miss Anne, Lawdy Miss Clawdy
Blue Suede Shoes
You Really Got A hold on Me
Get Back
The Long And winding road
Let It Be
Don't Let Me Down
For You Blue
The Walk
Teddy Boy
Two Of Us
Dig A Pony
Dig It

Do you have The Beatles' Beat? It was a 1964 Odeon release. I have it coupled with "Sessions" on a single CD.

Presumably, you'll want to sub the Please Please Me from the singles collection in for the azimuth-plagued horror on the official .EMI CD.

I'm always on the lookout for better. ;)

I don’t know if you are aware of some the different mixes that appeared some LP’s and 45’s. Penny Lane in stereo with the extra horn riff. The US mono mix of “Dr Robert”, the US stereo I’m “Looking Through You”, the alternate stereo “Norwegian Wood”. The stereo Australian 45 stereo mix of “I Want To Hold Your Hand”.

Ric,

So is Yellow Dog an official label?

Michael

Far from it! Before they changed the copyright laws to 50 years, Yellow Dog was legit. Not anymore...

Michael,

So then are these 2 Yellow Dog cd's that I own legit or non-legit (1991)

What year did the law change?

Yellow Dog Is/was a bootleg label. They're most famous for the Unsurpassed Masters Series. Later they started on the Get Back outtakes like Celluliod Rock.

Ric,
Do you have the US A Hard Day's Night LP released by United Artists? Some of the mixes are different.

Yellow Dog WAS A LEGIT LABEL before the copyright change. In America they were always a bootleg, In THEIR origin they were a legal product! I believe the copyright change was a few years back.

Best thing about that one is the jacket. I loved that gatefold sleeve!

Yep sure do, I think I may actually prefer some of the tracks on that over the UK release.

Thanks all for your input it is much appreciated.

The big plus for me regarding the US Hard Day's Night album is the longer version (2:06 compared to 1:46) of "I'll Cry Instead." It has an extra verse (just a repeat of an earlier one, but a different take) not found on any other LP or CD versions.

This version might also be on the mono pressing of "Something New."
