Do you consider Star Wars: The Clone Wars a "real" Star Wars movie, on equal footing with the original trilogy and the prequels (assume you believe the prequels are "real" star wars movies), or do you consider it more akin to the Ewok Adventure or its sequel, the Droids cartoon episodes, the Clone Wars shorts, or the Star Wars holiday special?

For me, at least, I have trouble accepting an animated movie as a proper part of a live-action movie series--kind of like the animated Batman flicks, or the animated sequel to Pitch Black or the Chronicles of Riddick. It just doesn't seem, well, "real" to me.

However, I will reserve final judgment until I see the thing . . .

Not really (at least not to me). It's like the TV "Clone Wars" that was done or I suppose I really view it as a videogame without an interaction whatsoever. My kids will probably like it but it's much like the Pitch Black prequel that you cite than it is The Ewok tripe (I hated those Ewok movies).

To me (if i may use a Beatles analogy**sorry**) this would be like The Beatles singing on someone else's song and calling it The Beatles simply because they appear on it. It just ain't so.

Are you referring to the new movie, or the cartoon shorts from 2001/2002(?) that were edited into two "films" on DVD. I do consider those to be part of the canon. Lucas helped shape Vol two of that series so it would set up Revenge of the Sith. The new video game coming out in September is being billed as Episode 3.5. The whole experience really does extend beyond the films and does encompass cartoons and video games.

The new movie. I mentioned the shorts in my post above. See:

I understand that there are video games and cartoons, but they just don't have the same, well, "impact" to me as live-action films. They just don't seem to be real, genuine parts of the story--more like rip-off's to me, marketed mainly towards kids. YMMV.

I'm curious to see it just to find out if we get an "opening crawl" coming right after... the Warner Bros. fanfare. That ain't right!

'Live action'? After the CGI monstrosities of the last 3 films, animation is probably closer to live action than they were...

I’m not interested in getting it I have seen “Star Wars” over and over and over and over in the cinema. I have laserdiscs and the DVD 2004 editions and the prequels and that’s it no more Star Wars for me.

Ive always wanted something to fill in the gaps between the movies. I wish Lucas would make little serials to pass the time between the movies. Imagine six 30 minute episodes shown in limited runs at movie theaters. Release 1 every 2 months for a year and Id pay 5 bucks a piece to see them.

the new film is actually a full-blown episode telling the events between episode 2 and 3, with the original actors providing the voices for their characters:thumbsup:

I’d like to see other films that don’t relate to Star Wars the guy has made billions on this films and merchandising from us over the past 28 years, that’s nearly a life-time and this guy needs to move on and produce or direct other films.

I don't think all the original actors are involved. I saw the preview and Yoda is definitely not voiced by Frank Oz, Anakin Skywalker is not voiced by Hayden Christianson, and Obi Wan is probably not voiced by Ewan McGregor.

I am confused by what you mean. Do you mean you are not interested in going to the movie theater to see it?

This new movie takes place between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, so it will fill in a gap.

But this new movie IS CGI! At least the last three films were predominantly live action. In the new movie, the entire thing is computer generated.

That's how I feel but I understand that this movie will be cut into shorter lengths for broadcast on Cartoon Network later this year or next year.

Anakin Skywalker is not voiced by Hayden Christensen.

That's already a major improvement over the prequels.

Ah -- sorry, I saw you refer to Droids and Ewoks, but I must have skipped over the part about the shorts (three dogs and two cats in the house can make for occasionally distracted reading on my part).

I'm curious to see if the new Clone movie will overlap story lines with the Clone shorts. Frankly, I thought the story line in the Clone shorts was far more like what we I had expected to see in the prequel trilogy: The Jedi Council members do a whole lot more than just sit in a room in a circle and talk -- they actually go out and do something. Even just showing things like knighting a Jedi -- I thought it was great that things like that were explored in the Clone shorts. I wrote off the Droids and Ewoks cartoons as being aimed squarely at children, whereas the Clone cartoons were aimed more at those of us who can still occasionally be a big nerd about these movies.

He's not, and you're correct about the others - it's easy to tell from the trailer that new actors are involved.

Only a handful of original actors are doing their voices...

I hear ya. The two year old contributes to my distracted reading! I just wanted to make sure that nobody else misunderstood me.

I can definitely geek out over Star Wars! I had seen some of the Clone shorts and enjoyed what I saw--even though I found the style of animation really ugly--but I still couldn't *quite* get into them. Again, my hang-up about animation vs. live action. Maybe the new movie will help me get over it . . .

I have been a huge fan since 1977 and actually loved the prequels, maybe only because they sated my thirst for Star Wars. Just about the only Star Wars releases I didn't enjoy were the Special Editions of the original trilogy--why Lucas felt the need to mess with them is beyond my comprehension.

Anyway, I don't see too much fanfare or even recognition of Star Wars: The Clone Wars in the press, so maybe most of the public does notsee it as a "real" Star Wars movie. Most of the posts in this thread suggest the same thing. I tend to agree, but I am willing to give the movie a shot and reserve judgment until I actually see it.

I wonder if Lucas wrote the screenplay or at least the story. If he did, that would go a long way in legitimizing it in my eyes.

Also, over the last few years there was talk of a live action Jedi Knights of the Old Republic TV series. This was coming directly from the Lucas camp, but I haven't heard anything new recently.
