Hi
I'm spending phenominal amounts of money lately (but getting good deals) on upgrading my gear. I'm placing an order right now for some speaker cables that come terminated with "8-10 guage" spades. I have read in various reviews about some people having problems fitting their spades to the large terminals on their amps or speakers.

I have Paradigm speakers and a Denon receiver, and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if I'll be alright with those particular spades, as I do prefer to use them over bananas if possible.

Thanks.

You can borrow a large and a small spade from this place and see if they fit. That should tell you!

Or get some from Radio Shack or somewhere....

Or ask Grover via the webmaster when his speaker cables will be ready....

Thanks, Gary, but I'm ready to hit the submit button on my order right now.

The way the world works, those Grover cables will be ready immediately after I do.

But you forgot one thing. I am ready for the Grovers now. It'll be a looooong time coming..... and I'll probably miss the announcement!

Good luck!

You're not going to miss it, Gary :)

Here's another question:

If they don't fit, can they usually be manipulated easily without breaking?

Jason, knowing that your gear is Denon and Paradigm is not enough info. Both companies make a wide range of equipment that accept different connectors. The best thing to do is to check directly with the manufacturers via email. However, keep in mind that I've seen receivers built to accept spades, but the engineering was so poor that the designer neglected to leave sufficient space for any spade lug to actually fit.

Gary, I politely disagree, you never want to ask advise at Radio Shack about ANYTHING. :)

Well thanks guys, but the ship has already sailed for better or worse. I will have to assume everything is going to work out with the spades.

I tried to delete this thread myself, but I guess that's only an option if the first post is the only one (?).

Anyway, if so inclined, one of you Gorts can do away with it. Whoa...Clavius is a silver robot-looking Gort, too. I'm beginning to notice a trend...

You should vemenently disagree with that!

I meant to say to find examples of spades at RS or another supplier. As far as I know there are 2 sizes - regular and monster.

Jason, we never delete threads here. We have many members here and I am sure that someone else will want or will eventually want some advice on this topic.

And thanks for asking!!!

(hope it works out for you. I've snipped the sides of spades before. Not the Big Spades, mind you! They tend to bend but it works!)
