I'm a relative newcomer to this album (just got the latest remastered CD a few months ago).
I am really loving the music ... My question is: Do I already have the best version? Thanks!

If you have the latest experience hendrix edition you have the best sounding CD version. I've compared it against the Reprise, 1st issue Polydor and MCA versions and much prefer it. On vinyl I still feel that the original UK Track version trounces all others, however you'll need to search long and hard to find a Mint copy.
You also need to hear the original US(2 tone label) to find out how to really F**K Up mastering. This is one LP I only hope comes out in a multichannel format.

Yes, if you have the remastered "Hendrix Family Estate" CD, you probably have the best sounding version, save for the 2LP set released at the same time, but now out of print.

The hendrix family LP issues arepretty good, especially the 8lp box set(got it for $59) . Also the Classic MONO Axis Bold as love is really good( just a different perspective!:)

It is out of print but you still can find it at a reasonable price. Red Trumpet
http://www.redtrumpet.com/ has the unnumbered version (for exporting to Europe) for $34.99.
If you prefer the numbered version, which is identical otherwise, try Audiophile International
http://www.audiophileusa.com/ - they have one left (No. 2699) for $60.
I paid $30 for a numbered copy when it was in print.

Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Kramer tried to use out-of-phase signals to create surround-sound effects. Then the engineers at Reprise thought they were put on the tape by mistake and tried to clean them up without asking. Hence the first US pressing sounds so crappy.

Yes, I have this, and it's phenomenal. Definitely one of Classic's best releases.
I think I'll stick with the CD I have for Ladyland ... that 2-LP set at Red Trumpet is tempting, but the CD is doing a pretty good job of "wowing" me musically ...

How is that 2 CD Greatest Hits set from the early 90s on Reprise?
