I watched this on cable today for about the fifth time. I love it more each time I see it. What a great movie!

Other than the Stern movie, it's Paul Giamatti's BEST movie.
He literally WAS better than Harvey because he played it super-straight.
I love this movie.

I have the original AMERICAN SPLENDOR comic books, going back to the debut issue in . . . 1976? I got into the comic book as a college freshman. I ordered what back issues I could from Harvey Pekar himself and was able to track down the few OOP volumes in them thar pre-Internet days, no easy task.
It's been odd if gratifying seeing my teenage cult obsessions become mainstream culture. There's an AMERICAN SPLENDOR movie, Philip K. Dick has been published by the Library of America on acid-free Bible paper, R.E.M. broke big . . .
I have the anthologies and a few original autographed issues. I used to live in Cleveland. When he was getting popular it was easy to get hold of his stuff.
Love the comics. Movie was great, but the comics are even better.

I liked it a lot, too. Especially enjoyed watching Judah Friedlander playing "Toby" to such a degree that I couldn't believe it could be a real person, and then having the real Toby Radloff show up and surprise the hell out of me with the real thing. Bizarre.

I love it my 2 worlds are talked about on this site...
2 people turned me on to jazz and Harvey was the 2nd one.

A big fan too. Started buying American Splendor when it came out, thanks to Crumb. Loved the movie and saw all 10 appearances on Letterman in the late 80's and early 90's. When I'm behind an old Jewish lady at the grocery store checkout, I always flashback to that great Harvey strip, which translated well to the screen.

I thought this was an amazing movie too...I hadn't read the comics before, but I did after seeing this. Very cool. I need to see it again now.
