Has anyone else been watching this amazing series on National Geographic? Tonights episode with the safari guide and tourists taken hostage in Uganda is bone chilling. I will have trouble sleeping tonight. Kudos to Nat Geo for airing this incredible and very well produced program.

It looks too scary to me. I couldn't really watch "Midnight Express" again.
I was put in jail in Mexico once but paid my way out - I remember I had this big Nextel with me and my boss at the time (the producer of the "Alamo" movie - I drove down from Texas to Mexico with some crew for the weekend) belted out asking where I was. I remember getting in, "...a jail in Mexico!" before the guard confiscated it.

Yup - one of those old school, big bricks - I used to call it the Korean War crank phone.

i thought it was a cell phone company......Well, we're both right. Dahlquist and Martin-Logan used nextel as a speaker paint. It was too toxic, apparently, and M-L stopped using it at some point. I don't think Dahlquist was making speakers anymore by that point (though I understand the name has been resurrected).

I just taped and watched the latest episode of this show about Billy Hayes' escape from the Turkish prison. I never read the book with his story of the actual events that happened opposed to the movie (Midnight Express) that changed things from his original experience. My brother read the book and said it was a real good read. This episode was really well done. This series in general is a real eye opener. I still love the movie as well even with the differences it still is a classic with killer music by Giorgio Moroder and superb acting by the late Brad Davis as well as the rest of the cast.
