I mean what are your favorite components... if cash isn't important?

My dream:

Speakers: WILSON AUDIO Grand Slamm
Mono Amps: KRELL Master Reference or Spectral DMA-360
Analog: Rockport Sirius III with Lyra Parnassus D.C.t cartridge
Digital: Verdi SACD transport, Delius converter and Purcell upsampler... all by dCS
Headphones: AKG K-1000

I would ever search for or audition my dream components. That way lies madness. ;)

Nothing has moved me on this thread so far; too much solid state. :)

I wanna play!

For speakers, hands down it's the Tannoy Churchills.

Amps, how 'bout the Manley Neo-Classic SE/PP 300B, with 18 wpc of pure SET power. Or maybe something by Wavac.

Pre, how about a top end Conrad Johnson. Maybe too warm? If so then an Audio Research pre will do. :)

Analog, how about the VPI HR-X.
For the phono pre, maybe the Boulder. Or the Herron Audio phono pre, which has tubes.
Cart? The Clearaudio Insider Reference Wood ('cause it costs more than my car:D )

And something to play CDs on.

Dan C (dreaming over)

;) :D

Steve, I do know you're an all-tubes fan... you can post your tubes-dream too.

I also like tubes... they have some charming things... but I have never heard tubes... even the biggest McIntoshs... what could "reproduce" a big orchestra in a very large room! I always missed the authority and clarity from the best solid state.

By the way... I had a STAX heaphones amplifier a couple years ago ... inside were tubes!

My dream system is whatever my next DIY project is.

Speakers. Either Martin Logan Statements or Soundlab U1s.

Turntable, have it Forsell with the fly wheel.

Cartridgre. Koetsu Rosewood Pro. I have the Rosewood signature.

Preamp. Manley Steelhead?

Amps. now this would be a fun thing to play with. An OTL vs an SET on world class electrostats. I'm thinking the obvious WAVACs vs OTLs from Atma Sphere like the MA 2II. Then we can throw the CAT monoblocks the Jadis JA 500 and the latest all tube reference amps from Audio Research in the mix and have it out.

That sounds like fun to me.

I thought the Jadis JA 200s sounded a lot nicer than the JA 500s :) so I would suggest adding that to shoot out :)

I've just been reading about the Koetsu Tiger Eye Onyx Platinum(with diamond cantilver) - now that is a good name for a cartridge :) :agree:

Should have guessed the Jadis 200s would be better than the 500s. I was just being power hungry. I have heard the Koetsu Onix with the diamond cantilver. I like the Rosewood Pro better. I guess I just like the sound of that rosewood body. They also have one with a Jade body. That has to look good. I would also like to dispell the myth that Koetsu and Forsell together is too much of a good thing. They are a match made in heaven.

Not too bad - in a green type of way :)

I intend at some point having my Onyx rebuilt with the diamond cantilever - but I think the Tiger Eye version is a new model (priced at $12,500  make that   )

Well, seriously considering this question, Id hazard a guess that most of my components that I already have would be parts of my "dream system".

I've not heard too many tube amps but I have heard Krell, Musical Fidelity and Naim and I really do prefer the "antique" McIntosh tube sound. Not perfect, I admit, but I don't think I can live without it!
