View Full Version : Counterweight upgrade for Rega RB300

I just bought the F2 titanium counterweight upgrade. Makes a big difference. I was skeptical at first but after listening I'm a believer. The audio dealer loaned it to me to try out for a week.
I find the sound of my Rega P3 is now more powerful, and more solid
in the bass/lower midrange, the sound is a bit more fleshed-out, and
everything is much more clear, less grainy in the uppers mids to the
treble. The P3's sense of pace is still intact but the slight
harshness/aggressiveness seems to have gone. I hear more detail. Things
seem almost more 'tubey' less 'solid-state'. It's like this counterweight allows the cartridge to track more accurately.
I never would have thought this possible from just changing the
counterweight. I guess resonances have a greater impact than I previously realized.

Hi Dave,
Yep! :agree: I bought a Clearaudio counterweight for my P25 since i hadda Clearaudio cartridge. A great upgrade, especially for only $90! My Rega couterweight hadda be set 1/4 off the end just to get her to balance. Whatta lame design! Speaking of lame, where is my freakin' VTA adjustment?

Hi Sckott,
I'm using the Aurum Beta S. Me thinks the retail is $450 but it can be had for bout $350 and is hard to beat at that price.

Yes, a nice cart. It's a 1/2" mount, yes? Grrr..
It's NOT easy to mount non-Europe carts on to a Rega without a VTA adjustment, and you either have to purchase the expensive sleeve that rides over the edge of the bolt, or use washers, etc. With the two washers under my arm, it's still just enough... :)

Hi Sckott,
Yep, the only easy way to do it is a Rega cart! :agree: Anything else is alot of work. :(

No VTA adjustment needed on my P25....
Hands down, the best mate to the Rega I've ever heard...

I use the heavyweight with my Rega RB300 tonearm, and like the results. I'd like to try a VTA adjustment, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to hear a difference, maybe someday I'll try one.

My heavyweight made a big improvement. I'd like to try the VTA adjustment. which one is the best? I think there are about three of them out there for a rega RB-300.

Hi, Jeffrey and good morning....
I just play the record.
I haven't had to screw around with the VTA with this cart like I thought I might....purchased one of these VTA "collars" from Express Audio in anticipation but never have had to use it...all the records I've played on my P25 - from a UHQR to a paper-think Javier Solis record - have played fine...
The only tweak on the table is the replacement of the felt mat...
Take care and good weekend!

Hi, Sckott!
I am still one of your dedicated "Disciples of the Sink" record cleaners - thanks for that one forever, dude!
I am running my entire system through a vintage Marantz 2285B...it's my avatar, there...plenty of ooomph!
Best Wishes,
Ben

Hi Ben!
A BIG plus for your cart! I'm gonna need to adjust the VTA to get the most outta my P25/Aurum Beta S combo. Thick lp's sound flat!
Thanks and have a GREAT weekend,
Jeffrey :)
