Whenever they use a special logo like this I always make a point of trying to figure out the reference ahead of time, but I must admit to having no clue what this was supposed to represent until I clicked on it.

Gropius, one of the godfathers of architectural modernism, was born on this date 125 years ago.

Gropius, one of the godfathers of architectural modernism, was born on this date 125 years ago.And there's even a music connection. He was married to Alma Mahler, widow of composer Gustav Mahler.

I found it astonishing that ON THIS VERY DAY, "CBS Sunday Morning" had "Design" as the theme for all of today's stories, DID A STORY ABOUT ARCHITECTURE IN BERLIN, mentioned the Bauhaus and didn't utter Gropius' name even once during the 90 minute program.

Same thing happened to me. I had no idea what that was until I clicked it. Found it fascinating, though!

He designed the Pan Am (now Met Life) building in New York. It's a building that I used to hate but have grown to appreciate. The Wiki article about the building is quite amazing...I never knew about the tragic helicopter accident on the roof, or the suicide from one of the top floors.

Haha, same for me. When I saw it I thought it had something to do with a giant HULK type creature that appears to be leaning against the last building.

It's true! I really though that!!!

I thought the blue 'thing' in the fore-ground was the remains of some guy that got clobbered by the Hulk and all that was left was his torso and legs!

But I did find out what it was about after I clicked it.

Coincidentally I passed the Gropius House in Lincoln, MA. yesterday in the course of a long bicycle ride. My companion wasn't familiar with his work.

And there's a musical connection in that Gropius named his style after a british rock band ;)
