I just lucked into a Ten VHS Tape set of "The Golden Age Of Rock & Roll".
The show was on A&E back in 1991.
I taped it off the air,
but this set has better video quality than my SLP tapes.
After checking one show I noticed they re-placed "Old Time Rock & Roll"
as the theme with some similar sounding tune.
Its my understanding that this set (VHS & DVD) were pulled off the market,
due to some copyright reason. Anyone know ?
I tried doing a search on this board and Google,
without much luck.

The story I heard was that it was actually stopped BEFORE the release.A few copies managed to ship before it was killed.--So no DVD (that I know of.Maybe they tried & failed again).Laserdisc?

Amazon shipped them for exactly 1 day before pulling them. Here's a scan of my copy, one of the rarest items in my collection:

It was pulled due to a couple of seconds of Led Zeppelin in the opening sequence.

I tried doing a search on this board and Google,
without much luck. The rights were owned by Time Life along with Warner Home Video...As far as I know,Warner dumped the Time-Life moniker long ago,so my guess is they also don't own the right to publish te video now,either..pity,since it's the most listenable doc on R&R I've seen yet (Aside from The Beatles' "Anthology",that is!) Yes, thats the set I found on VHS.
One show on one tape for a total of ten VHS tapes.
Each with their own cover, packed into a covered box.
Pretty cool.
P.S. I watched one program with Ricky Nelson performing "Hello Mary Lou" from the Ozzie & Harriet Show,
and it used the studio recording. But it didn't have the backing vocals and Rick's vocal wasn't double-track.
Neat !

I have 3 of the DVD's. I do not remember which ones.
I rented them from Netflix when Netflix first started doing business. Back then, if you wanted to buy a rental DVD, all you had to do was keep the disc and Netflix would bill your charge card.

It was pulled due to a couple of seconds of Led Zeppelin in the opening sequence.Ya figure after the problems they had with the VHS non-release,they would've cleared EVERYTHING before trying to put it out on DVD.And Led Zeppelin being the reason it got pulled again???!!!---They're the last band that should sue for ANY 'unauthorized' claims!!!!
Otherwise,it was one of the best programs of it's type ever done.I remember hearing about it before it aired and wasn't expecting much. Was VERY surprised to see all the clips complete, and, even better, most of the stuff was previously uncirculated. The series is definatly up there with the BBCs 'Sounds Of The Sixties',and the slighty disappointing 'Sounds Of The 70s'.

I'm lucky that my preorder for this DVD set was fulfilled before it was pulled. The only problem with my set was that one of the dvd cases has the incorrect artwork (for a different volume), so I'm missing the correct artwork for one of the discs.

It never made it to retail.
