I was looking at the cover of the new Entertainment Weekly with trusty Harrison Ford on the cover in full Indiana Jones mode, and noticed how Indy is known for his two day old facial hair/stubble. However, on the Amsel drawn 1st issue "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" poster, Amsel depicts Indiana with some minor facial stubble alright, but also with an almost full-on mustache to make even Burt Reynolds blush!

This got me to wondering, are there any other notable movie poster screw-ups out there? We've had almost 100 years of movie posters now, so there's got to be some problems out there. Wrong hair color, left handedness versus right, reversed imagery, misspellings or just plain bad drawings of the principal actors, what have ya got?
Please post the posters/images in question if you can. Thanks!

You'd think they could at least have photoshopped Affleck's beard back on for the DVD cover.

Poster screw-ups? How about an advertising campaign screw-up, perhaps the worst in US movie history.
"Boys, I've got it! My idea for the poster -- No photos! No illustrations! No actors' faces! No slogans! No nothing! JUST THE TITLE AND THE CREDITS!! IT'LL BE A HIT!! The idea alone sells itself!"

Like an ad campaign that touts the romance between Cort and Gordon would've made it a hit?

I have a copy of this poster, and the mustache isn't THAT heavy. The repro you show makes it look thicker than it does on the actual poster. I don't think there's anything wrong with the facial hair as shown on the poster - looks fine to me...

Well...I have the ORIGINAL (la-dee-da!) theatrical one-sheet poster purchased "back in the day" at one of those nostalgia/collector's shows that used to cycle through my local mall every few seasons, and the upper lip area has much more artist pencil activity going on than on the rest of his face, so I am sticking to my original story, BUCKO!
Regardless, from a good distance (like the distance from the poster advertised outside of the cinema and your car driving by at 5 mph), it looks like he has a mustache.

This doesn't really count as a mistake, but the first time I saw it, I certainly looked again:

The early posters for the 1976 remake of King Kong showed the giant ape on the top of the World Trade Center fighting off jets. But when they actually got around to filming the movie, NYC would not allow the filmmakers to buzz lower Manhattan with military jets. The later posters show the ape being attacked by helicopters as in the actual movie.

Another Star Wars oops. The original poster for Empire Strikes Back without Lando:
71652
this was pulled relatively quickly and replaced with art that included Mr. Billy Dee Williams.

The scale appears to be thoroughly effed, as well, and what is he holding in the second poster?

Commuter train/subway car? They have both in NYC, but there are no commuter trains in lower Manhattan below 14th street, I think.
It could even be a commercial airliner with the wings already gone.

Right, in that version, Kong was nowhere near big enough to stride the two towers.
With it's extremely low budget this famous misleading poster promises a so called Fifty Foot Woman (more like 200 foot). Anyway a favorite of mine. :righton:

Still one jet in the revised poster.

The original poster of Al Pacino's LOOKING FOR RICHARD omitted the director of photography. It listed nearly everyone else!

Which was SUCH a disappointment when I saw the flick in 1976. I think I still loved it - my nine-year-old self was so geeked to see it due to the hype that no disappointment could occur - but I was bummed that Kong wasn't super-huge and able to straddle both towers... :thumbsdn:

This misses the biggest mistake of all: referring to the dreadful 1976 "King" as "the most exciting original motion picture event of all time"! :D
(How in the heck could they call it "original", anyway? It was a freakin' REMAKE!)
