This is nice to see...:
Months before the Byrds turned the pop charts upside down in the spring of 1965, they honed their art in LA's World Pacific Studios, filling countless tape reels with exciting, early versions of songs they would soon make world-famous ("Mr. Tambourine Man," "You Won't Have To Cry" and "Here Without You"), as well as lost gems they'd never again revisit ("Boston," "Tomorrow Is A Long Ways Away" and "You Showed Me" ? later a smash for the Turtles). Here's a rare chance to wallow in those heady days while the Byrds incubated their art. The premier SUNDAZED release for 2001, The Preflyte Sessions ? two CDs with 40 tracks (16 never before released) packaged in a slipcase ? sports a gorgeous 52-page booklet with penetrating David Fricke liner notes. It also features sidebar interviews with: Carl Franzoni (one of the Byrds' original Go-Go dancers), Harvey Gerst (co-composer of "Don't Be Long" and "Please Let Me Love You") and well-known tell-all author and band pal Pamela Des Barres ? plus scads of unpublished photos by storied lensman Barry Feinstein. SUNDAZED's testament to the birth of an American legend might even make fabled TV documentarian Ken Burns say, "Why didn't I think of that?!"
