Hi Steve,

Now that you have read some of our requests and wants, I was wondering about yours. What would you like to work on that you havent yet? Are there any albums that you would just love to get your hands and ears on? Also... what do you listen to when you aren't "working". Oh... one other thing. I am sure that mastering engineers don't like everything they have to work on. How do you know if you are doing a good job if you dislike what you are working on??? (Beside the client saying it's good)

Thanks,
Bob

PS... Nice job on your site... I am already liking it more than the ICE room!!!

I keep my dream projects in my head. When one of them becomes a reality, I'll let you all know.

Too frustrating the other way, ya know?

I think he wouldn't be able to sit down if he had the opportunity to do "Rubber Soul".

Steve,

Just to indulge in a bit fantasy, if you were given free reign on Rubber Soul, would you consider remixing it?

I know in the past you've mentioned that there are rare cases where you would remix something if it was a poor remix (particularly ones that were done with bad EQ, too much echo, etc.), and even though material from Rubber Soul has been remixed twice, neither were done with much care (the latter sounding especially bad when it was mastered for the Yellow Submarine Songtrack).

Let's say you would even be able to release the original mono and stereo mixes as well. Would you then make an additional stereo mix?

Yes I would indeed.

With 'Rubber Soul' I would mix it so it is closer to the "real band playing" feel of the mono mix with the benefits of stereo separation. I would also include the mono on a second CD/disc (vinyl) to give the best of both worlds, maybe even a 3rd CD/disc with the original stereo mix to honor history (even though GM must've been inhaling 2nd hand 'jazz cigarettes' in his reasons for the ping/pong mix/affectionately, of course). I think Steve would possible do someting similar (only guessing) but the difference would it will have his magic attached to it too...
