I have a problem with my direct tv. I have been on tech support and they said they are working on it. Problem, when I cahnges channels, the picture shifts upwards, and causes the top to be cut off slightly. During Sports games the scores on top are missing, I have to hit menu and it goes back to where it should be. Anyone else have this issue?

It's not an HD set up, its the regular one. Seems the new update on my box when they went to a lighter color blue has caused this problem.

It sounds to me like your set has some vertical sync reference issues. Some sets are more sensitive to problems like this than others. The easiest advice I can give you is, get a new set, or live with the workaround you've discovered.

Thanks for the reply, It's on all 3 boxes and 3 different tv's. This is what I first thought

I have been experiencing the same thing and I also can only fix it by going to the channel guide or something, and then exiting back out. We first noticed it during the NCAA basketball tournament because we couldn't see the score. I hope they do get it fixed. Please post if this issue goes away at your house

Is this phenomenon only using the new MPEG4 equipment? I'm stille using the old stuff and I haven't seen it.

We haven't experienced that since moving to the HD-DVR package. Had a few issues with sound cutting out but it might have been loose connections.

I upgraded to HD-DVR back in November. The only problem that I have experienced was a serious audio/vidio sync problem about 2 months ago. I complained to DirectTV and got 3 months of HD free.

In that case, I'm stumped. If it screws up on three different TV sets, then I have no explanation.

At the moment, I've retired all my regular Tivos and am only using the three HD Tivos. One is the new MPEG4 Tivo DVR, which we just got a week ago. I'm seeing some artifacts I don't like with the latter (mainly the black level is up a couple of points from where it should be), but it's not terrible. The user interface sucks, but then, no DVR is as good as a TIVO, in my opinion.
