View Full Version : Has anybody used a KAB EV-1 record-cleaning machine?
I am thinking about getting one of those, and this particular machine looks small and should be inexpensive to ship. It is all manual, but I do not really care because I would only clean records occassionally.
I would like to see opinions on cleaning quality and the ease of use that you can get with this machine.
It has a hose that needs to be connected to a vacuum cleaner. I wonder if that would fit any vac/tubes at all, or could I run an inches vs. millimeters problem like you get with auto parts etc.
TIA
The thing looks really small, and is not really a "machine", because there is no motor - just a spindle and a contraption to suck the air and gather dirty cleaning fluid:

I am considering buying this machine instead:
Nitty Gritty Record Doctor II (

For an extra $70, you get a motorized machine and tons of Nitty Gritty fluid.
I was considering this one too, but the site expressly says: "Nitty Gritty record cleaners are not available for sale to destinations outside of North America".
Whatever...

All the best - Andrew
Thanks Andrew.
The machines look great, but being rather bulky, they would probably be quite expensive to be shipped here. Also, given the customs tariff for something like that, I would probably look at a 35-40 percent higher cost than the price on their website.
The advantage of the little KAB unit is that is below $200 and can, therefore, be brought in here duty-free. Just another silly regulation.

Sergej,
Sometimes companies can be creative with invoices for countries with silly import regulations, like Canada.
:)
You might discretely inquire with KAB.

With the KAB machine, it will not even be necessary, because under Ukrainian law any postal shipment with a declared value of under $200 (or, actually, 200 Euro) is exempt from customs. The KAB unit is $140, so I would still be in compliance even if they throw in some cleaning fluid:)

I wish Canada was so civilised. Jeff

I've had one for about six months, and I love the thing. It has an adapter, so it will will fit both standard size vacuum cleaner hoses. The beauty of this thing is, you're buying any motorized devices, it's all manual. Why but a vacuum machine when you've probably got a couple around the house. The different prices in cleaning machines is the labor saving factor. They all do basically the same job. Save your money
