check out this interview W/ walter murch:
http://www.dvdfile.com/news/special_report/production_a_z/apocalypsenowredux/part_1.html
in it, he discusses the image/sound transfer challenges encountered trying to reissue the movie theatrically.
i just picked up the DVD yesterday, and it's still one of the best looking/sounding films out there.

I saw it here locally in the theatre a few weeks ago. If you like the original, you'll love the remix. (oops, I mean redux)

One of my top 3 movies of all time. My favorite line is "...I love the smell of vinyl in the morning".

"The horror...the horror."
I wonder if MB was speaking of Britney Spears albums?
I wanted a mission. And for my sins I got one. They brought it up to me like room service.

For those who haven't seen it, I suggest you check out "Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse." It's a great documentary from 1991 on the making of Apocalypse Now.

even better is eleanor coppola's diary/book entitled "notes". it's esentially what the movie "hearts of darkness" is based upon.
one of the best scenes in the book is where eleanor is visiting the kurtz compound set and she hears a rumor that the production is purchasing cadavers from a local medical school for use on the set.
horrified, she locates a property master and asks if the rumors she is hearing are true.
and without missing a beat he responds:
"the script says a pile of burning bodies, not a pile of burning dummies."
true story.
