The apocalypse is truly nigh...

From CNN:

Kaplan: Ice Cube 'perfect' for Kotter

NEW YORK (AP) -- Former "Welcome Back, Kotter" creator-star Gabe Kaplan says Ice Cube is a great choice to play his old role in the big-screen remake of the hit 1970s TV series.

Kaplan told "Access Hollywood" in an interview that was to air Thursday that he thinks Ice Cube "is the perfect guy. ... He has shown what kind of crossover appeal he has."

In the TV original, Kaplan portrayed compassionate teacher Gabe Kotter, who returns to his former Brooklyn high school to teach a new generation of troublemakers, including John Travolta's Vinnie Barbarino.

That formula will be updated in Ice Cube's version, which Kaplan feels "will totally be acceptable. I think that the setting is going to be in South Central L.A. He is going to be just like how I was in Brooklyn."

Besides starring as the young teacher, Ice Cube, 36, will also produce the movie, Bob Weinstein, co-president of The Weinstein Company, said in a statement earlier this week. No other casting has been announced.

When asked about his ideal cast, Kaplan, 60, joked, "Well, I think Snoop Dogg will play Horshack, Vanilla Ice would play Barbarino. ... I don't know."

Still waiting for "Hawaii Five-O" and "The A-Team" both of which were supposedly in production 8 or 10 years ago.

Hey, William Daniels could reprise his role as an aging Captain Nice and train a bumbling idiot to fill his shoes. Somebody call Will Ferrell or Ben Stiller. It would be a BO hurricane!

:sigh:
In August 2004, the brothers Keenen Ivory Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Marlon Wayans negotiated a deal with Universal Pictures to produce a contemporary film adaptation of The Munsters.[1] In September 2006, Shawn Wayans revealed that The Munsters would be produced and written by the brothers and that it was slated for a 2007 release.[2] Shawn also indicated that the cast would not be all-black in the adaptation like The Honeymooners (2005), instead continuing to have a green appearance like its '60s predecessors.[3] Shawn also reported that the film would be rated PG-13 in the United States to continue moving away from the R-rated comedies that attracted minors

This sounds absolutely awful.

Ice Cube is not funny. And I don't buy that every night he reads supersized comics in bed and tells stories about his uncle's lives to Bailey from WKRP.

At least Medea's not carter.

And tell me Adam Sandler with a mustache wouldn't be about 100% more suited to the original material.

Nah, Adam Sandler would be much better cast as Arnold Horshack.

Ron Jeremy as Mr. Kotter... now that I could picture :D

Err.. Isn't Ice Cube black??

You know Hollywood always plays around with the facts. Besides, I doubt the target audience, your average teenager, will have much, if any knowledge of the original TV show, and won't care.

And, I think Ice Cube is funny as a serious guy. Gabe Kaplan was too, so it kind of fits.

They might as well gone all out and made Kotter a non-English-speaking Chinese lesbian in a wheelchair. :sigh:

No comment on the fact that the ORIGINATOR OF THE ROLE has no issue with this?
