I hate when they do this...how long before we get the 2 DVD unrated extra footage explosive annihilation edition directors cut?

2 Alternate endings???

I saw '1408' theatrically and was discussing it with a friend who saw it on cable. She didn't like the ending and I did. We soon realized that she saw a completely different ending. That makes no sense to me. I guess the correct ending is whichever one you happen to see.

When '28 Days' was in its run, they added a second ending in the theaters after the original ending, although it was certainly like a "HUH?" moment - added nothing.

I'm more interested in the 'Cloverfield extras than in experiencing the jittery camerawork again.

I'll rent it for sure. Will it also come out on Blu-ray?

Watching the DVD today. Movie looks great and has decent sound in Dolby Digital.

The first 20 minutes are awful but once the "monster" attacks, then things get good.

I may get this one used at some point.

Jeez, you can say that again. When I saw it in the theater, I damn near hurled. I wasn't thrilled about the insensitivity to 9/11 and the similarities to it (I'll save that argument for some other time and place), but since it's a good monster movie, I'll go out and get the DVD. I'm curious about the extras, too, and I've been waiting to be able to freeze and slo-mo a few parts.

"Young Hollywood" just irks me to the core, though. I can't stand those people, they suck in general, with their pandering to the mainstream and doing such an unbelievably lame job at it. Ick.

btw....anyone else notice the pod that falls into the ocean just outside Coney Island at the very end of the movie? Cool how the movie sets that up right at the end.

I watched it again today and came away pretty impressed that a low budget movie on one hand, had some very very good special effects on the other. The CGI in this movie is excellent.

Plus its short running time is a plus.

Watched it tonite and thoroughly enjoyed it. I fast forwarded thru the first 20 minutes. :shh:

Like another poster, I thought the short running time was just right.

BTW, the "alternate endings" aren't really very different at all.

Im still trying to figure out what the real ending to Waynes World 2 was...

I hardly ever watch the extras but I had a little extra time to kill after watching the movie tonite. Ii watched the deleted scenes and alternate endings, both with commentary. IMO, they're pointless. YMMV of course.

I bought it yesterday, but haven't had a chance to sit down and watch it yet. I've never seen it.

I saw it in theaters and loved it. When the DVD's come I am a "extra's". I won't bother renting it at Blockbuster because they do not get the 2 discs versions in. I can wait for 5 to 6 months and they hit the used bin or ebay for next to nothing. I just got Fantastic Four 2 for 1.99 plus 3 bucks postage. After looking at the extras I say the price was right. Judging by what everyone is posting on this film, I can wait. There is a Cloverfield 2 in the works but you can only be original and new once!

There's more than one 'Cloverfield 2', actually, at least for the 'Buffy' fans. (for the unaware, 'Cloverfield' was written by Drew Goddard, who got his start writing on season seven of 'Buffy' and season five of 'Angel') Goddard is also writing the current set of 'Buffy Season Eight' comic books (issues 12-15) wherein part of the storyline is the gang (plus Dracula) traveling to Japan. Oh, and Dawn (Buffy's sister) has been turned into a giant by her ex-boyfriend (after she had sex with his roommate). So, not only is he writing giant monsters wreaking havoc in NY, he's also writing giant keys (it's a 'Buffy' thing) wreaking Havoc in Tokyo.

Expect many self-referential jokes.

I think the first 20 minutes are fine. They set up the characters well and lull us into a sense of security. Sure, we KNOW the s**t will hit the fan, but we don't know when, and after a while, you almost forget that there's a monster a-comin'.

I liked this flick WAY more than I expected...

"CLOVERFIELD 2" has been scheduled for 2009 release with the same crew.

Saw this in the theater and almost walked out during the first fifteen minutes. The camera work was way too jittery... but I toughed it out and ended up liking the film quite a bit.

I had figured it would be unwatchable but ends up being a solid monster flick. Good job by the crew and actors. :righton:

It IS unwatchable on a big screen - that shakycam would've definitely given me the heaves. Heck, I got a bit nauseous watching it on my 50" set at home... :hurl:

I think seeing it in digital projection on the big screen, as I did, made it less modestly less dizzying, which is not to say that it wasn't.

They seriously need to invest in image stabilization for the 2009 sequel 'amateur video'.

Kinda missing the whole point of the film. Take away the "home movie" effect and you got just another Monster movie....

Actually the point of using 'amateur' shaky video imagery is to create exactly that effect - that the amateur video was shot by an amateur, at the scene, real time visuals.

I think the point is certainly well understood by all; my point was that it was overdone.

I didn't view 'Cloverfield' as just another monster movie; I saw it as an attack by a creature not so easily removed or destroyed by conventional means with the clever added challenge of the unpleasant ravenous parasites.

I thought it stunk. Camera work is aweful. Didn't answer any questions I had. Acting was aweful as well.

The thing that adds an extra star for me is the use of NYC locations. I can identify with where they were in the city and that helped the film for me.

If they were running around Detroit, less so.
