I actually like both shows, but The Simpsons is my favorite. I felt that in the first three seasons of Family Guy it was regularly showing up The Simpsons episodes coming on at the same time. Currently, neither are up to prior (not to mention peak) expectations, but I like them both better than most of what's on TV. Did any of that make sense? :)

Kids really want to know this for some reason... I remember some people asking (back then) which I liked better - Oasis or The Beatles.
"The Simpsons" are beyond anything "Family Guy" could ever hope to be - both in their execution and cultural impact.
"The Simpsons" would probably be rated the greatest television show of all time if there were a national poll - I can't imagine "Family Guy" even being in the Top Ten.
All that being said, "THE SIMPSONS".
"Family Guy" is funny and I Tivo it, but there's something about the half-hour animated comedy. When I have 30 mins, I'll automatically watch "The Simpsons". If I have more than 30 mins, I watch a movie. So "Family Guy" never really has a chance in the crowded marketplace of my mind, even though it's one of those shows I do like.

I have never watched a full episode of the Simpsons. But Family Guy I'll watch for hours straight.

I went Family Guy just because it is fresh for me. I never watched it for about 4 years, then tuned in.
I am trying to work in the phrase "What the duece?" into my everyday conversation. :D

I have to give the nod to THE SIMPSONS. Granted, it's not a big deal anymore but at its peak it was untouchable.
I love FAMILY GUY, too, but it lacks the emotional or cultural resonance of THE SIMPSONS. Heck, it doesn't even have memorable story lines; I'd have a hard time recalling a specific episode for you, even as I riff on the jokes and asides.
To be honest, during its brief, largely unwatched run, I thought Eddie Murphy's claymation show, THE PJ'S, was as good as either SIMPSONS or FAMILY GUY.

Unquestionably "The Simpsons". "Family Guy" is just a random collection of cultural references packaged together into a barely coherent whole...

Family Guy is currently better than the Simpsons. The Simpsons ruled it its day though but I still feel the first two seasons of Family Guy are better than the Simpsons ever was.

As parodied by SOUTH PARK, which portrayed the FAMILY GUY writing process as a form of pop culture Keno administered by trained dolphins.

That is incorrect! They were manatees not dolphins!

My vote went to the Simpsons, but I have more fun watching Family Guy (which doesn't really make sense now that I think about it). The Simpsons has gone downhill in recent years, but having grown up with it, it just has a nostalgic feeling that Family Guy will never have. I have to mention too that Stewie is driving me absolutely nuts in the newer episodes, which helps me lean more towards the Simpsons.

I liked Family Guy for the first two seasons, but now I think the comedy is stale, and often racist (and I know they are trying to use racism to show how bad racism is, but it fails more often than not.) Couple that with completely forgettable plots and that American Dad cannibalizes some of the better jokes and I've stopped watching altogether.
The Simpsons is often mediocre 2 out of 3 episodes, but when that third episode hits it's often VERY funny. The satire and parody is so much more funny on The Simpsons than on Family Guy. This season's episode explaining how the 10 years between high-school and Bart's arrival took place was as funny as any Simpsons episode since season 4. (I think Season 4 is where The Simpsons stopped being a sitcom and became a satire, and where I really started to enjoy it.)
As a matter of a fact I'll be taking down my Family Guy Season 1 framed poster soon and replacing it with a poster of Jackie Robinson's first at bat - so check the classifies often :)

Simpsons. All others are just Homer-be's
I have to say the Simpsons, my rationale being that even after watching the same episodes seemingly ad infinitum I still enjoy them.
Family Guy gets tiring after about the fourth repeat.

I loved the first 3 seasons of Family Guy but they pretty much lost me when they brought the show back (3 years after it was cancelled). IMO, now the show tries too hard to offend whereas in the first 3 seasons it had the perfect balance of offensiveness and creativeness. :D

I tried watching the Family Guy but I couldn't even get through the first episode. Between the characters and their voices, everything just grated me. It's sad because I love cartoons but just couldn't get into this one.
No question the Simpsons are in decline, but their very worst is better than FG's very best.
I've given FG lotsa tries, but the more I watch the less I like... this is the biggest me-too enterprise I've ever seen on TV – from the get-go, everything has been lifted from the Simpsons: the nuclear family, the cultural references, the pacing, the showtune productions, even the general rendering style... but with none of the panache – the supporting FG characters aren't remotely as rich or interesting as even the most obscure resident of Springfield.
I'm surprised FG didn't make their cast's skin yellow.
I'll give credit in the exactly one area it's deserved: Stewie is a pretty good character.
Other than that, Family Guy is a colossally unfunny stinker.
