What about TV? Boy George on the A-Team! He wins over a rowdy crowed that was expecting to see "Cowboy George"

I saw Eric Burdon and the Animals in a 1960s comedy film (name escapes me). I was impressed with their segment however.

I've always enjoyed that bit by The Godfather.
Even though the film's producers saddled him with skis, a sweater, and white teenagers, he and the Famous Flames still manage to bring the soul.

Andy Warhol (not exactly a musician but a dabbler) on the Love Boat.

Elvis Costello as a bartender in "Spice World" has to be pretty high up there.

I thought the way Costello appeared in 100 Cigarettes was hilarious!

Never seen Spice World though...

Heh, I know it's not an appearance if it's a starring role, but some of the Elivs movies were pretty rediculous..

No, it's gotta be ZZ Top in Back to the Future III, complete with spinning guitars. (Or maybe that was only in the music video tie-in.)

Oy. That was pretty bad.

Costello has been in what seems like dozens of movies and TV shows as himself.

My favorite being his entirely unexplained and random appearance (which was basically the joke) in Talladega Nights.

Even more high up there would be The Spy Who Shagged Me for breaking away from the story to show Declan singing on the streets with Burt Bacharach...in 1969. :wtf:

Alice Cooper was in one of the Wayne's World movies.

So was Aerosmith, in the second one.

Meat Loaf was in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

I don't know if that was "gratuitous" since he was actually playing a role in the movie. And it was before Bat Out of Hell was released.

What about Neil Diamond in "Saving Silverman"?
