View Full Version : I may be in the doghouse soon

Prologue:
This weeks allocation of brownie points may be history soon - it started a couple of days ago when I won an e-bay auction for 70 LPs for around 50p a record. After a few e-mails with the seller we had come to a deal where I picked up a couple of hundered albums for the same price per record as he was offloading to emigrate to Canadashire. He delivered them when Sue was out - but my plan went aground when my attempt to hide them and slowly integrate them with the others was found to be inadequate.
Scene 1:
I haven't told her about the EMI TR51A yet and today I've started the process of acquiring a Sony APR5003V deck
Scene 2:
I'm sorely tempted to get an Otari MTR12 or 15 and I've had my eye on a 3M M79 2" 24 track for a while now
Epilogue:
........ :help:
All the best - Andrew

Ooof. Wear crash pads. I feel for ya, man.
I went crazy this month getting a ton of SACDs and Lps I've been wanting, especially because Uncle Sam was nice to me this year in tax season...
Why I haven't gotten a raw beating is beyond me.
Good luck, Andrew. You're in for a thrashing. :(

Andrew,
You have a problem. Choosing to talk about it is a start. You are a repeat offender, it's not just the records, it's the TR51A and the Sony etc.
You can get help. Here in Canadashire, we have a 12 step program to help keep you on the straight and narrow but it's too much work. Just tell her you were searching the attic for a precious family heirloom you wanted her to have. You couldn't find it but did find these old LP's and some equipment. Tell her how upset you are that you couldn't find the heirloom and take her out to dinner.
Works every time.
John
Just buy her some new shoes. That should take care of the problem...
:D

Almost once until my wife reminded me that we don't have an attic. Luckily our local hospital emergency room has a lot of experience with blunt force trauma.
I have never used it on your girlfriend though.....

I could recommend AA (Audiophiles Anonymous). However one needs to really want to be helped and must admit their affliction.
Are you ready to be healed brother? Or as I suspect are you're just having way to much fun to stop.:D

Boy, you guys make me so glad I never married. Girlfriends never argue over your music collection or equipment--they can't, it's none of their business and I've yet to meet one who cared anyway. Funny how marriage changes that....
Dunno, Andrew, seems to me a few dinners out during the week should do it....or a new pair of shoes, or a handbag, maybe....:D
Better yet, find some music SHE likes and butter her up....worth a shot, sure can't hurt.
Good luck, my friend!:p

It sounds like a great place to pick up a load of unwanted kit :D  - maybe I could get hold of a Nagra-T or one of them 1" Nagra/Ampex beasts or.... (ouch)

There's something to be said for, as Marge Simpson put it, preferring the company of other men. :)

You have to put things in perspective for her. My wife used to have a problem with my ever-growing music collection. I finally convinced her that this "collecting disease" was better than me being down at the bar chasing other women. She hasn't said a word about it since.
Ahhh, the D-House, or "The House" as I so fondy refer to my second home. Unfortunatley it's not too large and my feet and legs stick out the door (think: Fred Flintstone).
I have soooo many experiences there! :) Jack Frost nipping at your toes (along with the neighbours dog), the chatter of teeth and racoons scrounging for food, maurading cats mistaking your big toe for a small mouse, squirrels going for the nuts....
Take some advice, my friend. Think Air Conditioning, Heating and Water Proofing the (second) home!
A charming (to his wife, at least) friend of mine seems to smooth things over quite well with diamonds. It does raise the net cost of aquisitions somewhat but it's been quite a while since he's borrowed the use of my "second home".
Either that or he's built himself one in his OWN back yard!
The cad!

Face it.
You're screwed.
Then, again, I guess that's not in the cards, either....
Sorry,
Ben

I think it's important to come clean with your wife. I eventually grew tired of hiding music purchases from my wife and confessed. It just got too stressful. :) We ARE supposed to be partners in this life thing. Good luck in whatever road you choose to take!

She wouldn't have any excuse to chase me with a rolling-pin if I did that :D
I have started looking into renting some secure storage to move some of the "stuff" (as she calls it) out of sight (and therfore out of mind :) )- this should free up enough space for 3 to 6 months of purchases. I have 3 drum kits (and a gadzillion snare drums) in the garage and only use 1 of them so I'm going to buy a load of hard cases and shift them into the loft. I've had a whole day of scheming and planning whilst she has been out with friends today - where there is a will there is a way :D
All the best - Andrew
Did it work, Andrew? Or are you fighting with the dog for space...?? :D

Well I've got a girlfriend who wants to get married. I told her nothing changes. Right now she could care less if I spend money on stereo stuff.
