Most of us came to this site out of an interest in music. I'm sure many were also "audiophiles" to some degree or other.
It would be interesting to find out if, by participating in and reading this site, how many of you have gone out and invested in better sound equipment/systems? I mean people who really didn't have much interest at all in equipment as such before you came to this site?
I haven't replaced anything in my humble system, but my tweaking has gone a bit overboard because of this forum. I want to get the best sound out of what I already have. I'm now starting to build new crossovers for my speakers.
So yes, this site has definitely increased my interest in audio.

I probably bought 2 turntables, cartridges, and phono stages because of this site. I hadn't listened to vinyl for about 10 years. I posted this thread:
http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=482
As a direct result, I purchased a used Rega w/a clearaudio cartridge and a new monolithic phono stage. After getting heavier into vinyl, I upgraded to a Nottingham spacedeck, Benz Glider and a Joule phono stage. I figure between the hardware and sofware, this forum has cost me a small fortune!
Of course, it has also provided me with incredible enjoyment and has been worth every penny.

5 tube amps, two carts, one borrowed for a short time, speakers, vinyl, CDs, SACD, DVD-A, Movies, heck even health remedy.
ONE THING I love about this forum, is the chances for one poster to let important informtation go, the huge chance we all have to benefit. A website would have to put said information up, finalize and upload it. Betcha a nickel it's here first long before anyone else knows about it.
And that's also why industry professionals and audiophiles visit this site. Not to mention, it's also a lot of fun.

Absolutely!!
Got back into vinyl w. a new TT, SACDs, DVD-As...not sure I would have gone this route if not for this site.
This is a great site for learning. I appreciate all the help I've gotten and things I've learned here.
Oh yeah, made some good friends too!

Let's see. This year alone, B&W DM604 speakers, VPI Scout turntable, Dynavector 20x-H cart, I'll be ordering a phonostage (probably Monolithic PS-1 with Modwright mods and external power supply) on Friday. And it's only April!!!!! So you could say the site has done something.:)

Not at all!
But then I do spend my days immersed in hi-fi and home theatre equipment, so that's hardly surprising!
But my expenditure on CDs, music DVDs and music books since I joined in December has been huge!

No. I was a music junkie long before I got here, and I'm just as much of a junkie now, since I couldn't possibly get any worse. But I do know a lot more for having been here, I think that's true for most of our members.
Birds of a feather, and all that....

I wouldn't say this sie increased my interest in audio, but it definitely increased my interest in Vinyl, because I learned that some old LP releases are the best sounding to date.

I've always had a big interest in the hardware that delivers the music. What this site has really brought home to me is how important the quality of the software is. A DCC disc played on lesser equipment will sound better than poor quality discs played on the best equipment.

Boy, has it! I usually mull over these sorst of things for a couple of years. Tube amp, speakers,SACD player, New cart., CDR,and numerous CDs and records, and let me add, mucho bunches of DCC Gold CD's. But the Golds and my MAC 240, are the things I really enjoy out of everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:goodie:

I'm with Ed 100% on this one :D  Good job there aren't many compulsive, obsessive types around here who worry about the details or we'd all be in trouble :D
All the best - Andrew

I don't know about increasing our interest in music and audio...we're all pretty extreme music nuts anyways. But it certainly has focused and informed us.
I had an eye on a tube amp, but I wouldn't have taken the plunge untill I could get one at a price I could afford, and I wouldn't have found one that I could afford if I didn't find it on audiogon, and I wouldn't know about audiogon if I hadn't found out about it on this forum.
I certainly am grateful for the reassuring advice I received when I was shopping for a new phono cartridge.

I just say no...
I came to the old DCC board with maybe one or two of the gold DCC's and wanted to find a location to purchase these great sounding albums. I was welcome and quickly accepted by Steve, Sckott and others. Hence, I entered S. Hoffman Mastering/Equipment/Listening 101. After a brief period of reading I started to try to hear the sounds that Steve and others were mentioning, with a mild disgruntling from my better half on spending more money on CD's.:sigh: When I found out that my system was good enough to hear these things I buckled down and read every single post and paying particular attention to this mastering engineer Steve Hoffman who was graciously, IMHO, taking the time to give you the straight goods on the sound and the education if you desired it. I've never left because it's an ongoing education 365 days a year. I've always loved music and yes Steve's house has greatly affected my increased interest in audio.:)

The honeymoon still isn't over...I love it to death. I bought some extra tubes, Ei 12AT7's and Ei EL84's so i'm covered for some tube emergencys.
I got them from
http://store.yahoo.com/triodeel/6bel71elsv.html
They got delivered here pretty fast.
This is what the amp takes:
8 x EL84: Output
2 x 6414 Driver
2 x 12AT7WA Input
I wanted to get at least one spare 6414 tube, but the few places I looked online didn't have any. Besides, I'm spending enough dough already!
The amp sure made a difference in the way CD's sound. I still can't get over it. I'm itching to get my magnepans fixed, so I can listen to jazz on my klipschs, and other stuff on my maggies.
Only lack of dough is keeping me from experimenting with tube rolling, but I'm sure within the year I'll be up to here in different tubes. It's too late to stop now:p

It was my research into hardware that brought me to this site. What good is high end equipment with low end recordings?

I have been into Music & Audio for quite a few years although this site sure does help to find great music and the best possible release of an album.
The hardware postings are interesting and informative as well.
